  • "the best portable music system out there."

Pros: clean, crisp, clear sound at all volume level. absolutely no distortion

Cons: none except there is no am fm radio built in, little pricey but worth the money

Summary: got this for christmas and am totally impressed with the sound. makes me wanna listen to all my music all over again on this system. i don't think separate base and treble controls are necessary, the sound is automatically blended perfectly at all volume levels. i highly recommend this product, you won't be disappointed. bottom line, you get what you pay for.

As with most Bose products, overpriced. I have a Bose Radio that was given to me as a cherished gift from my father for some home improvements that I did for him. While it is quite good, even for its age, I would have never sunk the bucks into it on my own. Bose owners often indicate too much money to spend and too lazy to look for more cost effective and often equally as good products.

So I like the portability of the Sounddock 2 Portable and the sound is quite acceptable in larger spaces and quite good in smaller spaces. Here's the caveat, and it's a BIG ONE! It speaks to some of the complaints about its price, and therefore a matter of Bose cash-grab.

The story: I recently bought the Sounddock 2 Portable and realized when both my friend and I went camping and brought our respective Sounddocks that the one I bought had a smaller battery capacity!!! So it isn't enough that Bose is charging $400+ for its latest Sounddock kit with carrying case, but the latest version has a reduced battery life! Sorry Bose, UNACCEPTABLE!

    The "lowdown":
The older Lithium Ion battery pack had a 16.8V, 2200mAh, 32Wh battery.
    My NEW one has a 16.8V, 1900mAh, 29Wh battery!

So for you non-techies out there, Bose is selling you new customers an aging system whose playback time is shortened by 10%-15%.

You can decide how you feel about that...
