"Good End-of-Line Product Buy"4.5 starson by jisitt
Pros: Sounds good for boombox player. Clean mid-ranges, musical bass and big speaker presence. As close to real hi-fi as one can reasonably expect from a portable system. Good choice for audiophiles in apartments who can't risk alienating neighbours.
Cons: Big and hefty. Has few extra features. When not plugged into AC power and running on batteries, it consumes eight carbon-zinc cells in two or three hours.
Summary: I got the unit at Costco for $219.99, less than one-third its orginal price. Fortunately, this end-of-line model had had a little known 11th-hour upgrade (check the box for a blue-and-white label saying this) so it can charge the newest Apple iPhone and iPod mobile devices like my six-month old iPod Touch. By all accounts a better sounding unit than its more compact and cheaper replacement, a so-called "micro" model.
