Following up on its well-received $99 Flip portable Bluetooth speaker, which CNET reviewed recently, JBL is showing off a bit more expensive portable Bluetooth model at CES, the Charge ($149). The new wireless speaker has more than double the battery life of the Flip and can charge a smartphone or tablet (presumably, that's why it's called the Charge).
Like the Flip, the cylindrical speaker can be placed horizontally or vertically. JBL says the Charge is a stereo speaker with two 1-5/8-inch (40mm) full-range drivers and a 2x5-watt amplifier. It's 2 inches (50mm) wide by 6 inches (150mm) long and provides 12 hours of playback from a single charge thanks to a built-in 6000mAh lithium ion rechargeable battery. It also has an auxiliary input for non Bluetooth-enabled devices.
The Charge, which is due to ship in the first quarter of this year, comes with a protective neoprene carrying case. I'll let you know how it sounds as soon as I hear it.
