The good: The Sony SRS-M50 Portable Speakers offer good stereo separation and clear audio without any distortion at high volumes. They're cute, compact, and come in a few color options. The speakers work with any music source and can be powered by batteries or a wall adapter.

The bad: The Sony SRS-M50 Portable Speakers offer little in the way of bass, and there's no carrying case contained in the package. Batteries are not included, and the wires tangle easily.

The bottom line: The Sony SRS-M50 Portable Speakers feature clear audio quality, good stereo separation, and a compact, travel-friendly design. They're a great option for the hotel room or office.

Review:

One of several problems that can plague portable speakers is a lack of stereo separation. The easiest way to remedy this issue is to create a design where each speaker driver is actually housed in a separate unit, so the left and right channels can be placed some distance from one another. One of several problems that can plague portable speakers is a lack of stereo separation. The easiest way to remedy this issue is to create a design where each speaker driver is actually housed in a separate unit, so the left and right channels can be placed some distance from one another. Sony implements this technique in its SRS-M50 Portable Speakers, a compact set that retails for $49.99, and there's no doubt the unit offers better separation than most ultraportable speakers. In fact, overall sound quality is pretty decent, the style is likable, and the design lends well to portable use, all of which make the SRS-M50 a great option for frequent fliers.

The design of the SRS-M50 Portable Speakers isn't anything shockingly new, although it has some handy touches. For instance, each speaker unit sits on a pair of legs, which feature tabs and slots that allow the two boxes to be snapped together during storage and transport. Unfortunately, Sony neglected to include a carrying case for these times. Batteries are also not contained in the package, though you do have the option of running the speakers off of three AAAs. Otherwise, you can utilize wall power via the included AC adapter.

"Good clarity, but lack volume ." By gagzzz

Pros: At half volume you can hear good clear music but it has to be very near to you..

Cons: At a little more than half volume when you play a fast song with high beats the bass just goes over everything.. it makes a terrible noise.

Summary: Great in portability, light weight..
but dont expect something great in sound from it.. it is lower in grade at high volume than any other speaker in the market..
Listen to fast and high beat songs at low volume even lower than half. I am returning the product tomorrow.

"Very low volume" By andrewhesstx

Pros: small...cheap

Cons: with iPod and speakers both turned to MAXIMUM volume setting, the sound volume is very low...have trouble actually hearing it...this will be going back to Best Buy tomorrow...

Summary: complete waste of money...volume is barely audible...maybe we got a defective set, but then where is the quality control coming out of Sony's factory?
