"Best all in one portable device"
Pros: huge capacity, good pictures, good batt life, record TV and playback exactly the same quality, use as a camcorder (ok quality), music quality is good. can back up DVD movies.
Cons: speaker quality very bad, camcorder cant pause (troublesome to use), software interface not too friendly (video & photo)
Summary: have really tested this device during christmas and new year.
An all rounder. Have everything I want and the option to choose what I want (optional accessories).
Video
I bought this mainly to record TV. It records TV or cable TV & play back exactly the same quality. Auto schedule is wonderful. I pre program 4 different channel and it records automatically while I am away. But the renaming of video files is terrible. U will be force to get the keyboard eventually. DVD recording quality is outstanding, have the option to choose diff format(wide screen, 4:3 etc) can even play PAL video on NTSC TV without using converter. But u will loose on sound quality (5.1 not supported only stero). Excellent pic quality both on TV and device.
Music
Music Quality as good as my Ipod. but the size of this will turn u off. its like putting a stone in your pocket. not easy to operate while on the go. U need all your two hands to change track/artist and buttons not easy to use (still like the click wheel). Does not support Asian language (lots of ??? track). screen display is beautiful (especially if u have album art) it is BIG. good for playing at home with my LCD TV displaying the album art.
Photos
Interface is nice. but categorizing is not possible. the only way is by folders. photo quality is very good on device but poor when play on LCD TV. I dunno why (maybe some one can help me here). can display photos on slide show while music is on at the same time. I especially like the thumbnails display.
Camcorder
Quality is good enuff to play on my 32" LCD TV. I thought they will look like clips posted on internet. but its not easy to use unless u strap that corder to your head or helmet(look stupid). If u wanna shoot at a party, U will need 3 hands. One to hold the device, 2 to hold the cam (see what u are recording) and 3 to start recording and stop recording (buttons located halfway up cam wire). U can do it on device but position is weird and i can't reach the button while holding deivce. recording sound quality is only average. Good for spy cam. no ones know u are recording if u hide device.
connection to device
like the easy connection. just dump music content to music folder and video to video. plu out and it will update by itself. just like an external HDD.
Conclusion
If u are looking to record TV/DVD/cable, play all mp3 files, view photos and use like a cam corder. This is the one. And best of all u can carry all with you when u travel.
