"Greatest Gadget Ever Invented for Movie Buffs"
Pros: Holds a Gazillion Movies
Cons: Larger than an Ipod
Summary: We have had the Arcos 504 160 GB for over a year and have put our entire library of movies onto it (and have barely touched the memory capacity). We rent movies for $1 on RedBox, download them and then watch them at our leisure. Every time we go on vacation we take it with us. The kids can watch it in the car but most of all, we can watch movies in our hotel or condo whenever we want because it hooks so easily to just about any TV...even in Mexico! This is not for use as an Ipod. It's too heavy or large for carrying around while jogging and such but it is MUCH smaller than dragging a laptop around yet it holds all the same media you would on your computer from pics, to music, to docs, to movies. We really don't store music on it because we also have an Ipod that holds music AND movies. We had difficulty figuring out how to load/synch it as explained in the manual so we just hooked it to our computer via USB (shows up like a jump drive) and dragged over the movies. It's very simple. The best $ ever spent on an electronic item!
The ONLY negative we have found (might be a software issue; not an Archos issue) is that if you play back the movies on a widescreen TV, the movies are a bit pixelated. The software we use to convert from DVD to MP4 is used for our Ipod which is meant to replay movies on a small screen. We have played the movies back on our 25" screen TV w/no pixelation but experience it with our 42" LCD.
