"Perfect vacation companion"
on by KentStater72Pros listen to music while reading eBook, share photos, listen to book, watch movie, a DVR for the bedroom.
Cons Rocker switches take some time to learn. Not a go anywhere MP3 player.
Summary If you are used to taking a paperback with you on vacation, this is the perfect alternative.
Read or listen to a book. Bring your CD collection with you and watch "Arrested Development" that you missed first time around.
It is not as difficult to learn the buttons as some have said and the picture quality is great. -
"Having had an archos before it is easy for me to compare this model to my last (being the av500)."
on by tim_owen69Pros Large screen with sharp picture quality, interesting icons, easy to use selection screens.
Cons The speaker is barely goes loud enough to hear, there is no charger outside of the usb 2.0 connection to your computer
Summary With this model you get very little in the means of accessories, for example there is no charger, no tv adapter to record off the tv or dvd and there is no connection cable to connect to a camera. Also one aspect that really annoyed me was the fact that i had to go online and purchase a further plug-in in order to play mpeg files on my archos. I know that archos are a profit organisation but that's just trying to squeeze every penny out of me possible. I have also found the battery life to be quite poor as i have only watched one film but have charged it twice. If I were to advise which product to buy from archos it would definately be the av500 because it comes with all the accessories, including even a remote. I just don't think archos have hit the nail on the head with this one. In spite of that, the memory space on my av504 is a huge 80Gb so i will have fun trying to fill it up with films. The lay out for the buttons are interesting but need some navigation. It is a bulky design but because of the sheer quality of the images and size of the hard-drive it is worth while purchase.

"Great Product"
on by orly65Pros Easy drag and drop interface
Cons So So volume level (even with firmware)
Summary I purchased this item with great reservations. It was not well known to me, I heard some nightmares and it sounded too good to be true.
I own a Zen Vision M and I took all my music and transferred all the songs over to the 504 with no problems. I also have the DVR Station and plugged it directly into my cable box with the RCA cables, recorded with no problems. I connected it to my dvd player and again recorded a DVD movie and it was fine. I have not purchased any plug-ins people seem to gripe about so often. Overall a fantastic machine that I think is getting some questionable bad reviews. -
"Ipod/Zune Killa in a beautiful sharkskin suit!!"
on by JJS74Pros Battery life, picture quality, sound quality (firmware update), robust design
Cons None so far!
Summary After owning a Rio Karma, Microsoft Zune and the infamous iPod I think I've found the new bully on the block. This Archos is the real deal. Caught mine with the DVR cradle for $300. Highly suggested!!!

"It was good while it lasted..."
on by lckmimPros Good memory space, good display, nice features
Cons Bulky, no stand
Summary This is more of a question than a review because mine broke within the first week, it came up with this screen that says: system is damaged, then it has three options: repair, Format, Do nothing; I tried all of them and all it does is go back to saying ARCHOS then back the system damaged thing, did this happen to anyone else, or does anyone know how to fix it?
Other than that it was great if it still worked I would have given it a 10
