    "Get a Cowon A2!"

by cameraz on August 18, 2006

Pros: Looks to be built well.

Cons: There's a better unit out there

Summary: "Must purchase separate kit to get a power adapter?"
    "Disappointing audio quality?"
"Must download plug-ins for certain types of video files?"
    "Weak bundled accessories?"
Gee, this really makes me want to run out and buy the new Archos 604. I have the Cowon A2, and it comes standard with a power adapter/charger. Also, the sound quality is very impressive ... it blows any iPod away. Plus it plays many types of video and audio types, and can record from virtually any source: TV, VCR, DVR, cable, satellite, voice and its own built-in FM receiver.
No, the A2 doesn't have Wi-Fi, but the first -generation Archos didn't have it either. I'm sure the Archos is solidly built and will have a beautiful screen, but it still falls short of the A2, imho.
    Updated
I forgot to mention: You don't need any adapters to record anything with an A2. And you can record DVDs and play them back on your TV or computer. Plus, it's a great thing to take on your vacation. I download all my photos from my Nikon D70 directly to my A2 and can watch a slide show on my TV screen.
When I first got my A2 I brought it to work and all my iPod-owning co-worker's jaws dropped when I turned it on ... even those with video iPods.
Finally, since I've owned my A2, Cowon has issued many firmware updates, which vastly have improved the capabilities of the A2. It's nice to see a company support its product.

costs 450 dollars! but the archos 604 is 350 bc its a modular device, which means you have to purchase the DVR station to be 450. once u do that the archos would blow cowon away.

I spent a couple of weeks researching the available media players. In the end, the A2 was one of the final 3 that I did a detailed comparison of, looking at all the feature descriptions in the user manuals and reading all the reviews, but I chose Archos to buy and I'm glad I did.

Hey u seem to be impressed with ur A2. I am going to purchase one and just want to know about its audio organization. Does it organize audio by artist, album, etc like ipod or does it only show the filenames within folders? Does it also allow u 2 play playlists?

    thanks

The a2 is not even better than the AV500, and do I have to mention the fact that the battery is irreplaceable?

While I also agree the A2 is good alternative, the "User Opinions" section is not the appropriate place to relay that information. Just do yourself and everyone else a favor a delete your review.
