"Not what I expected!"
Pros: Movies look great.
Cons: You must spend extra $$ to get the most out of it.
Summary: I purchased the 604 wifi at Sams Club for $386.00. It was an easy setup. Easy to load my music although it wouldn't take all of my music (bad files it said). When it came to movies you have to purchase software from the Archos website to be able to put certain files on it.
Price for the software $19.99.
To be able to record TV another $149.00. Travel charger $99.00.
So when it is all said and done you can spend $650.00 easily.
Another thing was the sound quality, I have been use to my 30GB Video Ipod the sound quality on the 604wifi didnt even compare with the Ipod, it was dull and just didnt have the crispness of my Ipod.
All in all it is a very cool little device especially the ability to surf the web (which is very sluggish) but very cool. I actually retuned it after 7 days. Not worth the $.

You do know the Archos isn't the only variable in the resulting sound quality? Are you using different earbuds, same music, and the same bit rate?

I really have a doubt. After reading all tgese and going through the reviews... I feel that Archos is not worth the deal you know.. Is it really better than the Creative Zen Vision:W and worth the money.. I was plannng to get on of these units but I had a confusion whether to go for the Archos. What do you people say? Is it really worth and basically I was preferring the Wifi enabled option. If I have music videos of MPEG-2 format, does it work when I put in the Archos or do we need a seperate Plug-in for that? Please reply guys!

Can someone tell me how the internet browsing speed is? I don't expect it act like a dual core but I'm hoping its not dial up either

What comes with the archos 604 and what does it do? I think it comes with a DVR adapter so that a person can record from TV but I hear it also comes with nothing but headphones and a pouch.

you can adjust the 'sound settings' to whatever your personal taste is. the unit comes stock with a "flat response", best for hooking this unit up to a stereo or PA. however, if you want it to sound great in headphones, you'll need to adjust the EQ / Bass Boost accordingly.

Yeah, I've seen the ad on Sam's website too, like a lot of places. But if you check with archos, they still haven't released it yet. That's why it's out of stock everywhere, it was never in stock.
At first I thought you were confused with the pma430, but then you mentioned accessories with bogus prices.
Sam's doesn't carry the dvr station, neither does amazon or about everywhere else on the web. But archos does, you can buy it from the source for the highest price available, $99 not $150.
Archos also carries the travel adapter at the highest price available for $69 not $99.
The plugins are $25 dollars not $20, which you would have noticed if you bought them. Somebody didn't do their Euro conversion.
Lastly, concerning audio quality, even if there was a problem with the audio I'm sure the firmware would fix it. A firmware upgraded regular 604 out performs an ipod.
Which all of this begs the question:

Can you tell me about how sluggish it was? Did it take more than 10 seconds for a page to load sluggish?
Also, can you easily upload avi, mpg files or are you required to buy that additional plugin on their site?
Any info would help!
