    "buyers beware"

by HuskyDude on September 28, 2007

    Pros: attractive design

Cons: you have to buy plugins for you to play video, browse the net, etc.

Summary: I got this 9-22-2007 and returned it the next day and here is why...

out of the box, you won't find an AC Adapter. you have to BUY it separately.

they included a stylus but they did not include a slot to put it in the device? hello!? do i have to keep the stylus in my pocket? If there is a stylus, have a slot to put it in!

Now let's go to the software....

the browser... yes this device can surf the net if you BUY the freakin plugin. Don't know how much but isn't this supposed to be included in the $300 price?

It is a video player... yes when you BUY the freakin plugin. Again, this should be included in the freakin price.

records TV... yes when you BUY the dvr pack. this I understand should be a separate purchase.

at this point i am pretty much disappointed in this freakin product but wait... there's more...

I spent alot of time putting the album artwork in all my mp3s but this freakin device would only get the first artwork on the list and puts it on every freakin song.

after all this, i tried to make myself feel better by listening to the mp3s i just put in this freakin device. Guess what, It freakin freezes. not even holding down the freakin power button works.

So, after ending up not being able to use this freakin device at all aside from being a very expensive paper weight, i rushed to circuit city, returned it (still frozen) and got my cash back immediately.

This could have been THE PMP device for me if the plugins were included and i don't have to buy them.

Okay, he uses the word "freakin" too much. Aside from that he is absolutely correct. I own the 604 Wifi (the obvious predicessor to the 605). Just like the 605 everything was extra. I was not happy about it.

And yes, you do need an AC power cord. The idiot that said you don't forgot to tell you it takes about 16 hours to charge the battery with the included USB cable. Not acceptable!

You DVR capability, take on another $80 to $100 (depending on where you buy it). I also agree with him to go with the 604 Wifi (if you can live with a 30 Gb hard drive). Its now substantially less expensive and does the same thing as the 605. You can get a larger hard drive on the 605 but who cares. Oh, and the 605 can play YouTube videos (604 cannot). Woopee!

All players freeze at some point - every one of my iPods has frozen at least once.

You obviously didn't bother reading the manual to find the reset button. I saw a player in a local Best Buy that wouldn't play video - a salesman reset it and everything worked beautifully.

You buy a $300 player without knowing anything about it and then get mad when you are too lazy to learn anything about it? Do you buy a manual transmission car and complain that you have to shift the gears yourself?

Thanks for returning it so people who deserve such a great player can enjoy it at a discount.

you can record videos fromm tv without the extras. wifi comes with the unit and the first year of the tv guide is free. you dont need wifi anyway to record from the television. you can stream video from your computer also, that is where the wifi comes in. and again, its included. i have the same problem with downloaded videos but that is only if you download pirated movies. you can download any avi movie either divx or xvid to wmp but only the divx plays. u can stream the xvid to your unit via wifi. hope this helps.

Before you buy anything, especially a $300 PMP player did you do reasearch? If you did you would've known that the plugins are sold separately, the ac adaptor is sold separately. You probably got "lucky" and got a defective unit, if I were you I would've exchanged it for another one. It's a really good device, you just happen to get the luck of the draw.

That was the previous version that had pretty much everything included that the 605 is missing, except a DVR Dock. They're really cheap too!
