"This will blow your socks off!"
Pros: Way way better than predecessor AV480!
Cons: None really to get upset about
Summary: I've just got my hot sticky little hands on the AV500 100gb and it is simply stunning - some of the photos on the web do not do it justice at all and that stupid sticky cover of King Kong is an insult to its actual screen which is simply stunning, crystal clear and the previous versions (AV400 series) are not a patch on this baby. The photos that some people are saying have been 'photoshopped' have not - the Archos AV500 DOES look exactly like that but even prettier in the flesh! It comes with a removable battery which is fantastic (I'd advise buying a spare). The controls on the right hand side are very well placed, simple to use and the whole PVP feels very solid and well constructed! Hooking it up to the TV is EASY and recording programmes even easier. You can store thousands of jpeg photos, tons of music, movies (compressed into .avi files as if you copy directly from your DVD player, the file sizes are huge but converting is easy, especially on the Mac with 'MacTheRipper' - not sure about software for PCs to compress). If you want me to take some piccies, let me know and I'll gladly do this - and they will be photos without the KingKong sticky on it so you can appreciate how crystal clear the screen is and how beautiful the colours are.
You cannot set it up, at the moment, with a Sky Digital box (Pace) as Archos do not have a code yet but that does NOT mean that you cannot record from Sky. It simply means that you have to change the Sky channel yourself rather than the Archos doing it. You can still schedule recordings etc.. but must make sure that Sky is on the appropriate channel that you wish to record. Alternatively of course, you can record onto your Sky Digital box and then record onto the Archos whilst you're away or asleep!
Buy one, you deserve it! I bought mine from QVCUK.com and it came with an extra battery and cost, at the time I bought it as a TSV, £450 but worth every penny. BUY ONE, BUY ONE, BUY ONE, is all I can say!
