"Looks like Porsche / Performs like a Ford"
Pros: LCD, Light Weight, Built in Tuner, Sound
Cons: No Gapless Playback, Button Location, Functionality
Summary: After purchasing the Samsung YP-T9 I was pretty excited to see what it could do. I did my research and thought I was buying the right mp3 player, that was yesterday. Today I am returning the Samsung YP-T9. Yes the Samsung has a flashy lcd and built in FM tuner, but I ask this question, is it worth sacrificing gapless playback and functionality? I say NO. It takes the Samsung a long time to turn on and a LONG time to flip between tracks (gapless playback). Say you want to play a specific song from a list of say 900 songs, well good luck finding it on the Samsung. Just try scrolling down a track listing to find a song that starts with an "S" and you will find out what Im talking about. My wife has a Nano and although it does not have all the features of the Samsung, its software and processor blow away the Samsung. I dont know about you, buy I will sacrifice the FM tuner and flashy equilizer for functionality and speed any day of the week. The Samsung has potential, but if it want to compete with other mp3 players, it needs better software.

while i'll admit that it isn't easy for casual users or the tech challenged, this is barely a problem. it's a simple matter of file management, which MOST computer users, even some so-called veteran users, have little to no grasp of. but simply, making folders and organizing folders is no big deal. bypass the samsung software and open up my TWO iterations of my computer and simply make folders and place them by dragging from your pc (on one instance of "my computer") into the ypt9 (which is open on the OTHER instance of "my computer". then drag songs or whatever into them in the same manner. once done, when you get to the menu on the ypt9, everything's organized and very easy to navigate.
trust me, i've blown through THREE ipods, and they are WAY over-hyped, as well as over-priced. these samsung's are the best players in terms of features and usability, bar none. and they beat the competition by a mile when you factor in how cheap they are. and no, i don't work for and am not shilling for samsung. -
had you have better reviewed this product you would have realized if you press and hold the down key it does in fact scroll quicky throught the songs.
My t9 was as good as and possibly better that the ipod nano in speed software and especially style, with a very prompt and fast inintial boot of the player
awesome product for 129.oo at wal mart -
so you would rather spin your thumb in an endless circle to scroll down 900 songs than just hold a button down?? and who really searches by song name nowadays anyway??? most people search by artist, album, then song. and the samsung has TACTILE feedback when searching, so you never have to mess with that finiky circle again, you know exactly when you move down one song without having to look down at your MP3 player. and last but not least. you were complaining about samsungs proccesor, then you say samsung needs new software? what with that?? ciao

performs like a ford?? i'm not sure what you mean by that, this t9 has been through a lot and hasn't broken or been the least bit damaged, i had a friends go through the wash, and after a day of drying, it was up and running. maybe your reffering to the speed of the t-9, which is exaggeratedby the way, but even that is a bad analogy becuase ford has fast cars too, every heard of the Ford GT anyone? ha. and back to the speed issue, while the t9 doesn't have gapless play back, it takes less than a second to switch songs, not a huge deal to the 95% of albums that don't require gapless play back. so stop your whinning about gapless play back. this seemed to be your only problem with the t9, so basically shut up.
