"Warning: Does not work with many printers!" on by jgoodman1
Pros: Easy to configure with Linksys brand router
Cons: Doesn't work with my printer!
Summary: There is no disclosure on the box but this print server will NOT work with most multifunction printers and many regular printers. The device was easy to set up but it then could not detect my printer (the USB light was not lit). Linksys tech support told me to exchange the print server and after another trip to the store, the problem remained. Linksys then told me that they knew about compatibility problems between the print server and MANY printers. The most annoying thing is that they don't mention this on the box. EVEN MORE ANNOYING IS THAT THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A LIST OF COMPATIBLE PRINTERS!!! So, if you have a multi function printer (fax/copier/printer), don't waste your time buying this. And if you have a regular printer, make sure that you can return the print server before buying it, because there is a good chance it won't work with your printer. Very poor job by Linksys product development here.

It will not work with the Cannon LBP5100 Printers
It found everything bar the printer on our system
but it could not find the printer
Linksys said to buy a printer that will work with it
but they would not supply a list of printers that will work with the WPS54G
Oh well Linksys make another $100 on a dud produce -
This works!
Install with your printer attached to the print server and computer. CHeck "local printer" option. Do NOT choose sharing.
When done installing linksys, disconnect the printer from pc and set it up connected to the print server (use the usb port).
If it doesn't work, do this::
Go into the the printer / fax window
Now right click the printer and choose either "properties" or "sharing"
Click on the "Ports" tab
You want the "LK9" port
If you see it, check the box. If there's more than one "LK9" port, try checking one and then the other to see if one prints.
If it doesn't work, select the "configure port" button. (be sure to check one of the "LK9" ports first)
"configure print server" window opens. click "browse."
The "LK9" print server port should be displayed. Choose OK.
Select the "device port," (USB1 online or LPT1)
click okay.
Unplug the print server. Plug it back in. Green lights wb for LAN/Status/USB.
Try printing. -
OK....I've been to about ten sites tonight reading reviews on this product. Almost all of the bad reviews are about the lack of operability with MultiFunction Printers...So as to save someone a little time maybe...YOU NEED A MULTIFUNCTION PRINT SERVER TO RUN A MULTIFUNCTION PRINTER!!!<br>Multifunctions handle data differently than regular printers because they are actually a few devices in one...so...In conclusion...for all of those who say they did "research" before buying...Had you actually done the research...YOU WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT THIS FOR A MULTIFUNCTION!!!!

Had a good opinion of linksys before this debacle...5 hours of phone calls and can't print. Worse, radio shack sold it to me telling me it would work, just wouldn't control Fax etc, which was OK with me. Actually won't print, and Radio Shack locally doesn't want to take it back. $100 blown trusting linksys, and Radio Shack. Really upsetting.I'm sure if I spent a few hours I could convince someone to give me my money back, but my time is worth more.

There is a post about how this does not work wtih a multifunction printer. It says right on the box, "Do not use this with multifunction printers."

THIS PRINT SERVER DO NOT WORK WITH MANY PRINTERS - LYNKSYS IS HIDING THIS DEFICIENCY OF PRINT SERVER FROM THE BUYERS. WHEN YOU CALL THEIR SUPPORT CENTER THEY CLAIM THEY JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IF THIS IS THE CASE THEY HAD TO RECALL ALL THE SOLD UNITS. I NEVER WOULD BUY ANY LYNKSYS PRODUCT.
