Great, Compact, and Light And Only $50by amguttman - May 9, 2008
Pros: Compact enough to fit in my backpack, good quality printing, very light, wireless printing
Cons: Paper seems to feed slightly off to one side, but actually comes through and prints perfectly aligned, printer for sale only at Circuit City and ink only available at Circuit City and Lexmark
Review:
I needed a portable or compact printer on very short notice and checked CNET for their reviews. The portable HPs were not rated too high and one of them, the HP470, cost $249. I went to Circuit City to see a small Samsung laser printer, but it weighed "a ton". While browsing in the store I came across the Lexmark Z1480. I believe it's made to be sold in Circuit City stores only and I the ink cartridges are only sold by Circuit City and Lexmark. It was very compact, paper feed and output trays both fold flat or slide back into printer. Set up was very quick, less than five minutes including setting up the printer for wireless printing on my home network. I was surprised how easy it was. Printing quality is fine for a $50 machine (cheaper then replacement cartridges for my standard printer) that coupled with the main feature I was looking for, portability, made this a an outstanding value. I have a fairly oversized backpack (though it's not huge), and the printer easily fit into it, and I still had plenty of room to slide in my laptop. If you're looking for a light and portable printer with wireless printing capability that does the job, this is a great choice. Again, for $50, you can't go wrong.
