Pros: Great picture, great sound, beatiful looking set

Summary: I picked up this set from conn's two weeks ago for a low price of $1199. It has a beautiful look to it. It's chrome with a black frame and tinted black glass on the sides of the frame. It also had a sharp picture with wonderful sound. The main drawback was that my DVI input did NOT work when I connected to my hd box from time warner. All I got was a green screen. When I talked with a conn's technician he said that many of these akai dlp's had problems with the component or dvi inputs not working. Akai refused to recognize the problem even though I had paid an eztra $200 for a warranty through them. Conn's customer service was HORRIBLE!
They had no notes of the technician ever coming to see my set nor did they inform the store of my need for a return. The bottom line for this t.v. is that is the full package. Nice look, nice picture, and great sound for an excellent price.
Just make sure that both the dvi and component inputs work when you purchase it. Also, NEVER do business with conn's they are scam artists. Hence their name I guess. -

Summary: I was very pleased with this television when we first bought it. Not only was it very nice and sleek looking, the picture and audio were quite impressive for the budget price and with the addition of specialty cables, this television only improved. About half a year in we started to see a green line across the screen, and it won't go away. We've been in touch with Akai numerous times to get this fixed, and everytime we call we are told that a service technician will arrive in 10 days. 4 months, hours on the phone and many phone calls later - still no service technician. Our only option is to return it, which is a huge inconvenience. We'll be switching it for a new TV - NOT AKAI.

Summary: I've read a number of reviews for this TV and many of them described terrible sound, a horrible picture for non-HD stations, and numerous problems that couldn't be fixed.
The price and features were just too aluring so I went to Costco and picked one up for $1200 CAD. Figuring if there was a problem I could take it back withing 30 days no questions asked.
I've had the TV for almost a week now and I love it! DVD's look great! Xbox looks great! The standard broadcast isn't bad, but what do you expect? Any of the large TV's are going to show the flaws of SB. The sound seems very good to me and most will have surround sound anyway so that's a non issue.
The lack of inputs is annoying when trying to hook up a number of components, but I'm just going to go by a multi input bar and problem solved.
You can spend twice as much money and get a better contrast ratio and more inputs, but that's entirely a personal prefferance.
Based on what you get for the price I have to say this is very close to a 10! -

Pros: TV is big and great quality for your bucks.
Cons: Alot of hooking up the cables like every other tv out there.
Summary: This is a big tv for a very cheap prices with great quality.Got mine at Fry's Electronic Store for $997!
