"excellent 1080i picture, not so good 480i"
Pros: BRIGHTNESS AND COLOR. People who come by to watch HD events are amazed by the color and brightness of this tv.
Cons: Terrible standard cable 480i picture. Image looks pixelated and grainy when regular cable channels are on.
Summary: First of all, I have been shopping for a HDTV for 6 mos. I have weighed the benefits from each manufacturer and based my buying decision more on what I've read rather than actual comparison of images. I went to Best Buy to compare micro-display tv's and was very disappointed to see the JVC's picture. I asked the 16yr old salesboy about the inputs that the store uses and he told me that they are unreliable and my picture will be considerably better when hooked up to quality cables at home. I was very pleased to see the quality of HD programming via monster component cables when connected to my HD cable box, however, when switching to standard 480i resolution, i am extremely disappointed. I chalked it up to being so used to HD clarity, that the "normal" 480i signal looks that much worse. The picture just looks "digital" and grainy. So now I only watch the 13 channels of HD that my cable company offers. BUT THE 16 CHANNELS ARE AMAZING.
