"Be careful"
Pros: Nice screen
Cons: Very short bulb life
Summary: I've had two JVC HD-ILA sets in the past year and a half. The first was returned after 11 months, having gone through 4 lamps ((>$200 each) in that period. The replacement unit burned out lamps the same way. They were replaced under warranty, but in one case took two weeks to arrive, which is a ridiculous length of time to be without a TV, and over superbowl as well. The extended warranty will cover lamps for the first three years, but after that? They are supposed to last 10 times as long as my experience has shown. Be careful - 4 lamps a year buys a new TV in two years. JVC needs to fix this fast. Is this the Gillette business model, where the lamps are the blades? Buy that warranty or go broke? Crazy.

By far, the major cause of lamp failure, is not letting the bulb cool down. He must be cutting all power with a master switch or wall switch. My original bulb has over 4000 hours with picture quality as it was when brand new.
