"Great picture but sounds horrid." on by CorruptanceClothing
Pros: The picture is one of the best I've seen on a DLP TV. Black is not as dark as it could be, however it's still distinguishable. The size is spectacular and it can be seen from pretty sever angles unlike most DLP's.
Cons: The sound is terrible. I've had this TV for months and just noticed due to my surround sound receiver going out. It seems like the sound is trying to put out surround from two speakers. The voices are distant sometimes, and some sounds are very loud.
Summary: Bottom line is: The TV is a great buy for the price. The picture is excellent, however, the sound is terrible.
Simply put, it's definitely a worth buying. Just be sure to have a surround or stereo receiver to hook to it. -
"Not a disappointment, so far" on by 34pop
Pros: Big, bright, & accurate picture color
Cons: Poor menu design, average sound, & minor picture/motion issues
Summary: Read this review keeping the following things in mind: I got the TV free from American TV & Electronics (free promo item after spending $3100 on furniture- the wife wanted furniture from American & said it was the only way I was getting a big screen), I do not have the TV hooked up to HD programming (not yet willing to spend the extra $$$ to get an HD Dish Network receiver/box/programming upgrade for only 26 HD channels), & I have never owned an HD or projection TV before (replacing Sony, 36", flat/CRT, non-HD TV).
Overall the JVC is a solid performing TV. The picture is bright, the colors are realistic and natural (after minor tweaking), the sharpness is a bit inconsistent (TV seems to exaggerate the quality of the source material- the good looks great & the bad looks worse), & the imagery has a healthy amount of depth (even highlights & shadows contain detail/shape). The weak point of the picture is sometimes it experiences a slight/brief raster effect (smooth picture details appear as digital blocks). I have only noticed this effect a few times & it only lasts for a second or two (happens when picture is filled with lots of quick in-focus motion, example: panning shot of shifting smoke or steam). The other negatives about this TV are it's bad menu design (single tiered scrolling list) & it's less than spectacular sound (sound is a bit flat and weak, but I listen through a surround set-up).
The biggest positive about this TV was the price, free. If American runs this promotion again, if you need a couple significant pieces of furniture, & if you have the space to accommodate a 61' TV (3 big if's), I thoroughly recommend this promotion and this TV. -
"Great picture, lousy sound" on by rwalters
Pros: Picture is spectacular
Cons: Only basic audio and this is terrible.
Summary: This set was obviously designed as a monitor and then had a tuner and audio added as an afterthought. It sounds like the background music and voices are on separate channels and the background overpowers the voices. I sometimes have problems understanding what is being said. In addition, this is unbelievable, if you are using HDMI input, the optical audio out port is disabled. I wanted to use HDMI to connect my DVD and satellite receiver then use the optical out to feed audio to my HTS. Can't do it!

"Can't go wrong here.." on by ndoggeddy
Pros: Much improved black level, Optical Iris works well, 2 HDMI Inputs, Sleek cabinet
Cons: Lack of direct input buttons on remote, geometry on 4:3 slightly pincushioned
Summary: I was replacing a JVC HD-52Z575 under warranty from Best Buy, and decided to go with JVC again. The first thing I noticed was how much better the black levels were over the model I had. Also, while viewing dark material I was always able to view details in the background thanks to the Optical Iris, another great improvement. Out of the box the colors are excellent, and require only a little tweaking, I used Digital Video Essentials. The sharpness of this TV is much better than what I was used to previously.
Overall, I'd highly reccomend this unit to anyone considering the jump to HDTV.
