"Excellent vivid picture and styling, I love this easy to use TV"

    by joejoe123 on October 17, 2005

Pros: Easy to setup, crisp HDTV picture, Finally someone gets it right. A black TV is it! For styling no other set comes close.

Cons: Very minor issue is the delay changing channels... They know this as it is mentioned in the manual. If you click enter after changing the channels the deley is reduced.

Summary: I shopped a while before purchasing this TV. In the end it was down to the Samsung 1080P and this TV. Almost went with the Mits 52528 720P model but I?m glad I spent the extra on this set. The picture is so crisp. I was also thinking about going bigger. I knew the 62? TV?s would be to big but almost went with the Samsung 56?. I?m glad I didn?t. 52? is plenty big and I?m sitting about 11? from the screen. Bigger is not always better. Why the Mitsubishi over the Samsung.

One I like the memory slots, AV and firewire connections that are located in the front of the 65628, Samsung only has the AV on the side.

Two with the Mits I get an extra 2# over the Samsung 50. The 56 which would have been to big. Looks can be deceiving in the showroom.

Third and biggest problem with the Samsung, Styling, antiglare coatings are much better then the anti glare screen of last year. Both are very good and I don?t see a problem with glare on either set. However the Samsung has a high gloss black boarder around the whole screen that has terrible glare. That with a silver base took the Samsung out of the running.
I only want to see the screen. I find silver to be distracting and the high gloss boarder is just stupid.

On the fan issue I?ve seen others mention. I never hear it, except when I am shutting the TV off.

The best picture I?ve seen so far is the over the air antenna signal, I get my cable card this week, woo hoo.

I agree that the non-hd picture is a major downgrade from HD, didn?t realize it was a poor image until I picked up the HD signal.

Glare - my room does have sunlight in the room and I notice no glare at all.

If you don?t have surround sound you?ll have to get it. The TV speakers are not very good as with every other set out there. I leave the TV speakers off.

I like the remote and use it to control my x-box (games and movies), VCR, and Receiver.

    I purchased mine at tweeter.
I wanted to buy mine in a store and Tweeter?s price of $3690 was less then Bestbuy and not much more as the online stores.
Also my fear of finding the TV on sales next month for less are handled with their 60 day price protection and with Thanksgiving sales coming I?m protected.
    Updated
I've had this TV for over a month now. The fan noise does bother me sometimes. The video and audio are not always aligned but I'm told this is the signal. There is also no volume control when commercials come on.
I checked out the Sony KDS-R50XBR1 which wasn't out when I purchased. The picture of the Sony looks a little bit better. Cnet reviewed it higher. I'm seriously considering exchanging. I don't like that the Sony has this stupid silver speakers sticking out of the side.

The Sony says it controls the sound so it stays level when commercials come on +. It may be enough for me to change and I may just deal with the silver speakers that I won't use. Picture or presentation that is the question.
    Updated
Today I viewed the Sony XBR next to the 52628 and the Samsung. Although the Mits has the nicest packaging I can't get over how much better the Sony screen looks. Tomorrow I will return this for the Sony.
I'll deal with the ugly speakers.
