"Great TV for the price and size"
Pros: Screen size; features; picture quality
Cons: viewing angle; fan noise; not a sony
Summary: Was waiting for months for the release of the Sony KDS-Z70XBR5 70". Found out that Sony postponed release until early 2008. I needed a TV so I looked at the Mitsubishi. At first, I was reluctant, but the picture was outstanding for a 73" TV. I took a blind faith leap and bought the Mitsubishi WD-73833. Straight out of the box, set up was a piece of cake. I did not have to manually configure any inputs, it auto-recognized all the inputs the moment I plugged in a cable and let me assign a name to it. First thing to watch was a bluray DVD. I turned on the 120hz feature and the picture was outstanding. I did notice that the TV speakers sound below par for a top of the line model TV. The bass sounds distorted and too much mid range. There was a noticeable high frequency noise coming from the fan that could be heard over the sound of the TV. After one week, the sound stopped and it has not came back after two weeks and counting. The prime placement for this TV is 3ft from the floor when sitting on a couch. If you have a typical entertainment center, you might want to make sure that your primary viewing area is at least 15ft away or you will be looking up at a picture that is not as bright (I noticed when I stood up from my couch, the picture was brighter than sitting so I had to move my couch back). HD content over the air quality shown on the model was outstanding. I bought a cheap RCA ?rabbit ear? metal antenna ($9.99), plugged it in, scanned the channels and was watching football in HD in less than 5 minutes. HD content from the cable company was the same result. Even my wife loves the TV. The overall fit and finish of the TV was excellent. Besides the minor problems I mentioned above, the set is great.
