"Great Design with Superb Picture!!"
Pros: Excellent HD picture, sharp design, quiet operation
Cons: Sensitive vertical viewing angle, minor rainbow effects, pricey (but worth it!)
Summary: I have owned this TV for 2 months now and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I did a lot of research before buying and DLP technology was the way to go with the fewest drawbacks. HD channels look phenomenal as well as signals from the HD DVD player via the DVI and HDMI inputs. Picture looks awesome at my 8'-0"± viewing distance with deep blacks and bright whites. As the previous reviewer said, you MUST calibrate this TV for optimum picture. My results were similar to his. You'll waste your time and money to buy a TV of this caliber and not tune it!! Don't bother with component connections, picture quality is not great. I used my existing DVD player and was not happy with the picture. This is because the DVD is read digitally - sent to the TV analog - converted BACK to digital...conversions = poor picture!
A HD DVD player gives sharp, movie-like images. Standard def. looks OK, especially after calibration. Rainbow effects only seem to appear on lower quality signals, when they happen. Can't comment on the sound, I use a 5.1 home theater. I only used the remote to set up the TV and now use a Logitech Harmony which can switch directly to an input instead of cycling through. If you want a quality picture that will last, this TV is the way to go!
