"Best Purchase I have ever made (so far) (Read this review to answer many DLP questions)"
Pros: Great Picture, Good inputs, no rainbow, no problems with this TV yet
Cons: Technology not yet proven over the long run
Summary: I looked at TV's for 2 years and almost bought every type of TV at one point. Finally after a friend got the older model I was sold on this one. (Figuring it could only get better)
There is a ton of info on these TV's but they never answered all my questions.
For starters, the picture on this TV - HD, HBOX 360 & DVD is perfect, so sharp and detailed its amazing. I sit about 12 feet from it and it is perfect, my eyes dont get tired and i dont see rainbow effect. When you stand right next to this TV you see some screen door effect, but taht will always happen when u stand next to a 42 inch TV.
This TV is very light, I have moved it to bigger rooms for the Super Bowl etc with no problems (need 2 people just because the TV is so long)
One big question I had was power consumption, I have had no problems and hear these TVs are good with power. I have had this TV, my cable box, 3.2 GHZ computer (monitor and subwoofer) and my XBOX 360 all going at the same time in the same room with no power shortages or blown fuses.
Another question I had was fan noise and noise from the spinning color wheel. This has not been a problem from me, it is almost inaudible, especially from 12 feet which i normally watch. The fan in my comp is much louder. I am yet to notice sound from the fan.
Viewing angles, I have watched from many angles above, below, lft and, right and the picture si always good. DLP TV's have one of the owrst viewing angles I believe so I have been impressed with the clarity from all angles so far.
Lamps blowing out - This was soemthing I read about b4 i bought this TV, so far so good (hope I dont jinx mine). I can't speak to how long it will work, but I can say that when you see negative reviews about busted lamps you just have to remember the people that write rewiews are usally the ones who have somehting go wrong. I know 4 people with this TV or last years model and none of us have had problems (yet).
Non HD programming - This was another thing that almost detered me from buying, people saying how bad it looks on these TV's. The truth is after you look at HD then look at a non HD image stretched to a wide screen it doesnt look that good. But my girlfriend watches MTV all the time and never complains, it looks fine. Dont let this deter you from buy any HDTV.
Compared to Rear Projection LCD. My dad has the Sony 42 inch LCD and I think the Samsung DLP is much sharper with better colors. The sony really pushes the reds and it is noticeable, but Im sure a professional could fix this.
Overall I love this TV...not once ounce of buyers remorse. HD is amazing and will get better as more channels adopt it.
If you are in the market for a HDTV and dont want to get sucked into the hype of plasmas etc, this is the TV for you.
