"SIMPLY AWESOME!!"
Pros: Absolutely spectacular picture, far better than plasma or LCD, and at about half the cost. I wouldn't have believed it without comparing it side-by-side; that sold me immediately!
Cons: Not as thin as plasma or LCD, but who cares? It's only 18" thick, or about 9" thinner than a smaller, 55" rear-projection set it replaced.
Summary: WOW! Even the non-HD channels look better. HD channels reach a new level of clarity and brightness that easily surpass those of plasma and LCD sets, which look dim, soft, and grainy by comparison. Think of it this way...it's like the difference between watching a new 70mm movie and the CRT color TVs of the 1970s. In fact, I'll probably never set foot inside a movie theater again...my picture is, I think, even better than what I see in the movies, and once I get my surround sound home theater sound system hooked up, I just may never leave my TV room again. The picture is that addictive -- it's so clear, sharp, bright, and real looking. It's like watching a Dutch Master or a French impressionistic painting come to life. My prior set was a Diamond Series top-of-the-line 55" Mitsubishi that I've had for only 3 years -- which wouldn't fit into my new condo. So, what to do...buy a new set -- a larger one, of course. But, it's so much thinner that it fit into the place with ease. And the picture...it simply blows the old one away, as it did when compared with new plasma and LCD sets of the same size. Then, it even costs less -- almost half as much. Funny thing...I would have actually paid more for the quality of this picture. Also, the remote is smart and easy to use -- touch one button and it turns everything on (the set, cable box, theater system, etc.); touch another, and the cable system's menu pops right up. It has a logical layout, clearly marked and nicely shaped buttons, and a good feel in the hand. But even if I had to get up off the lounge chair and cross the room to change channels, I'd have this set just for its amazing and incredible picture!
