"Samsung DLP Failure"
Pros: Worked well for the first 16 months
Cons: Set failed after 16 months
Summary: Purchased 9/1/2006 from Circuit City for $1855. Operated flawlessly until 1/6/2007, then the picture froze and went blank and stayed blank. Samsung Customer Service said the warranty is for one year from the date of purchase. However, they customarily will add an additional three months of warranty, bringing the total Samsung warranty to 15 months. Since the date of failure was beyond the 15 months (36 days), they would not warranty the unit. They suggested I should have purchased an extended warranty.
Diagnostic test determined the light engine assembly had failed. Cost of repair, (parts and labor), $1561.15. Additionally, the color wheel may have also failed, but could not be tested without the light engine assembly being replaced. Cost of color wheel, $275.00.
Samsung Customer Service is correct; I should have purchased an extended service warranty. At least I could have counted on the set lasting for 4 years if I would have purchased the extended service warranty from Circuit City.

I bought a Samsung 42 inch DLP TV model HL-R4266W for $1500 in Sept. 2005. 18 months later, my TV started displaying a shadow on the left side which started at one inch and has grown to 4 inches. A cursory google search shows other consumers with this same problem. Appears some Samsung DLP's have a defect with the light engine tunnel which after some hours of viewing start showing this shadow problem. 3 letters and 2 faxes to Samsung went unanswered. I was able to reach a "customer service rep" who referred to their "exceptional customer relatins" dept. Her answer? I should have a bought an extended warranty and if their TV's were defective, it would have been recalled. She would not acknowledge that some TV's could be defective. She herself bought a Samsung TV with the extended warranty. Apparently as she works in the complaint dept., she knew how much her employer stood behind it's product(zero) and needed the extended warranty just in case something went on. To summarize, Samsung wishes you the best within one year of the manufacture's warranty. After that, you're SOL. What a terrible company and what a terrible way to do business. I will NEVER buy another Samsung product again.

i had exactly the same experience with my tv as you described........i love my tv until it went blank. we thought it was the lamp, we were aware those burn out. it is the color wheel and it is costing around 400.00 to fix. the tv repair people have had it over a week...still waiting on that part. if you are going to buy this tv- get the extended warranty!!!!!!!!!!!
