"Great TV for the price" on by tennisman888
Pros: can get 50" for a decent price, has QAM tuner
Cons: buying a TV stand ($150+), bulb replacement (both minor)
Summary: I researched a ton before I bought this TV. I finally concluded by reading other reviews that if you don't have the limit of wanting to mount an LCD or Plasma, DLP was a more economical option. I got mine at Circuit City as an open box for $899 and will do a 2 yr ext warr (renewable) since its new technology. I'm going w/o digital cable so I only have my locals in HD. The standard def is a little grainy but that is usually not the TV as much as the poor signal the TV is getting - then blowing it up to 720p. Some SD channels look better than others but they are OK. The channels in HD are awesome. I also have an older XBOX. With component video cables, I don't need an xbox360 soon, the games are awesome. Although its probably not as big an issue now, since I do a lot of gaming, I was worried about burn in on plasmas. That is not an issue on DLP. I've seen some negatives on the volume of this TV. Its not bad at all for a smaller space. I would also suggest getting the extended warranty. I am.

"Great Bargain TV with beautiful picture!" on by Jim Buerk
Pros: Very user friendly menus and remote.
Cons: Must have hi-res sources for best results.
Summary: This is my first venture into large screen TVs. I needed to replace another TV in the house so I moved the old tube HDTV into the bedroom and upgraded the living room TV with the Samsung HLT5075S. I am very happy I did!
The prices on LCD TVs is coming down. So I first looked at ones I could afford. They would be just a few inches more than the tube HDTV I have now. Then I started looking at projection, specifically DLP, TVs. I looked online and found favorable reviews of Samsung DLP TVS. So off to the electronics store.
The picture on the display model at the electronics store looked awful. So I asked the salesperson to hook up another source. He attached a blue ray DVD player. The picture was incredible. We then played with an up converting DVD player and the picture was very good as well. So the decision was made to buy it.
I installed the TV and connected it to our HD satellite receiver and upconverting DVD player. It only took a couple of minutes to adjust the picture for satellite TV viewing. it took about 5 minutes to adjust for DVD viewing. The menus are very intuitive. We boosted the brightness and contrast for the DVD input and we were done.
We popped in Star Wars Episode I and were blown away. We could view the picture from just about anywhere in the room. Only the extreme edges of the room were hard to view, however that isn't where we sit so this isn't a problem.
Later we watched sports on the HD channels from satellite and were very happy with the picture quality and brightness of the picture.
For an entry level HDTV or DLP TV it is worth the money.
One final note, after actually reading the user's manual there are additional settings we can use to view DVDs and movies. We will tweak the TV further as we watch other movies. Eventually we will get a Blue ray DVD player. Until then we are probably going to enjoy all the DVDs we have now all over again on our beautiful new 50 inch DLP from Samsung. -
