"Great HDTV for the price."
Pros: Outstanding picture out of the box. Great value, bought in-stock at a well-known store for less than $800. Perfect size for replacing a 32" CRT.
Cons: Slight screen door effect is noticeable. Only720p native res.
Summary: I was replacing a 32" CRT, and this one fit perfect in the cabinet I did not want to replace (Word of advice, many people buy a bigger HDTV than they need). The picture quality brought a smile to my face right out of the box with no tweaking, looked just like the showroom picture at the store. Color saturation is beautiful, without looking unnaturally vivid, like so many HDTV's today.
It has all the usual inputs and outputs (wished it had a headphone jack, but that's a nitpick). The "screen door" effect, common with rear projection LCD's, is noticeable, but only if I look for it; and it's not bad enough to bother me when I do notice it. I also noticed the soft whir of the lamp's cooling fan at first, but not anymore. The menu system and remote are very intuitive and easy to use.
The TV is smart about handling the "zooming issue" when switching between standard and HDTV signals, and when many "HDTV" stations still cast a lot of standard res material mixed into their HDTV signal, with sidebars, etc.
Someone complained of motion blur, but I haven't seen any bad digital artifacts on mine, at least not that I haven't seen on every other LCD HDTV, projection or flat panel, that I have ever looked at. I think this TV is as good as the source material (up to 720p, of course).
Someone else complained of it taking a long time to turn on, but my picture comes up in about 10-11 seconds, about the same as the Sony standard CRT that this replaced. This is not unusual for big CRT's or high power projection lamps.
Someday, I will probably wish I had better than 720p native resolution, but I would have paid double the price of this TV to get that in a quality brand. So this little beauty was the perfect way for me to get started into the world of HDTV.
