"watch for blue streaks on former beautiful screen!!!"
Pros: awesome 55" HDTV if optical block doesn't fail
Cons: sony's customer service is horrible! i thought i was dealing with "SONY"! SONY is only worried about profits in this competitive market, not customer service or honesty. uggggh!
Summary: I bought my beautiful sony in april 2005 and by march 2006 i had blue streaks on both sides of my formerly perfect game-day friend. i carelessly did NOT buy an extended warranty for this TV because i thought i bought the best, and i foolishly thought SONY would stand behind their product well into the time frame that i would enjoy this tv until my next splendid upgrade (2 years). HOWEVER, i've since learned that SONY is just another company invested in itself and DOES NOT care about it's petty consumer or their trivial needs. SONY has identified a problem with the OPTICAL BLOCK in many of it's large screen LCD's and if you satisfy the "MOST POPULAR" problem of this critical part of the television they will graciously replace the part after you jump through burning hoops of razor wire. if, in fact, you survive this event and can "prove" the problem (with the written diagnosis of an authorized sony repair company at a minimum cost of $100.00 to you!)you will have your $3000.00 investment repaired. if you can not, and this hurts, you will need at least $925 in philadelphia to buy a new optical block and have it installed. After 7 phone calls and approximately 10 hours of wasted breath SONY will not assist in even discounting the part of their TV if reported so much as 1 day after the 1 year original warranty. mind you i had been in Circuit City (where i purchased my new love/hate relationship)twice before the 1 year had expired and they continued to misinform and mal advise me to move my speakers further away from my 55" LCD HDTV. I've since learned from SONY tech's that speaker magnetism does NOT affect the picture of an LCD tv. they also advised me that the problem with my tv (and i despise calling my SONY 55" LCD HDTV a tv)most probably began at least 6 months before the human eye could identify it. from this, an intelligent human with these supported facts and professional testimony could fully realize that this inferior OPTICAL BLOCK needs to be replaced by SONY and that one should not need to spend a mortgage payment to fix this common problem in SONY HDTV's. SONY is VERY ELUSIVE and COMPLETELY NOT CONSUMER RELATION FRIENDLY. SONY sells a brand name at TOP prices, but at times of failure remains parallel with the poor consumer service we are all becoming all too familiar with. please don't waste your money (and trust SONY) until they can take better care of their regular supporters. i've never complained of any product before this and i am SOOOOOO dissapointed by SONY's lack of response and complete ignorance of my existence. buy an extended warranty or a different television please!!! Circuit City wasn't helpful either and obviously gave extremely poor and completely incorrect advise throughout the entire process as well. SONY's customer service has told me that they have no plan to correct this all too common problem with their OPTICAL BLOCKS. please dont waste your time or your voice, buy a different brand television. and yes, i am a pharmacist, partial owner, and manager of a proud community pharmacy. SONY, by not even returning ONE of my 7 phone calls, (NOT ONE, although promised every time) has caused me to lose faith in my former favorite. any ideas from anyone? i just lost $3,000.....
