"Great HDTV for the price! Most bang for your buck without a doubt."

by dereklanem on August 8, 2005

Pros: This HDTV has a beautiful picture. The black levels are very good compared to similarly priced sets. The on-screen guide is extremely helpful in setting up the TV.

Cons: Picture is very poor out of the box. Alot of adjustment is required to make this set live up to its full potential. No split screen.

Summary: I purchased this TV from a local appliance store for $2030.00, so shop around. Out of the box, the picture is poor, but once adjusted the HD viewing is amazing! The HDMI connection provides seemless viewing pleasure and the inputs/outputs are available for almost anything. I would buy this TV again in a heartbeat!

Just out of curiosity... what were the setting you had to do in order to enhance the picture quality? It would be helpful if you could outline them specifically since I will be purchasing this TV next week!

I am totally new to the Widescreen TV's and we purchased this unit last night... I threw in Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Incredibles... and the colors are kinda off but that is not my real concern, I was under the impression that I would not get the black bars on top and bottom any more... is there a way that I am missing to get the full display of the movie? I looked at the back of the DVD's and the only one that is not enhanced for 16x9 is Star Wars... If anyone has any helpful information... It would be greatly appricated!

    Thanks!
    Mike

Just bought the TV and am having a very hard time with the video settings. I have Time Warner digital cable; the HD channels, HDNET, etc look great. But the regular channels are so grainy looking. And I don't know how to fix it. I tried the THX optimizer on one of the dvds but am still not really satisfied. how did you set up your TV? Is this just the way projection TVs look with regular channels?

I completely agree. This TV is great. I was also shopping the Samsung DLP, but chose this for its price and picture. I, too, found a deal on this TV that is lower than the MSRP, so I would suggest for anyone shopping HDTVs to shop around, deals are out there.

I think the picture is great now and have read that some calibrations are needed to get its full potential. What settings do you have currently for your set up?

Derek, I have also seen this HDTV and was impressed! Are you setup in a bright room or a theater setting? My room is bright with lots of windows down the side. Do you think it will look to washed out.
    Thanks
