"Excellent HD Quality- One Problem Yet to be Resolved"
Pros: Unbelievable quality picture with HDMI input
Cons: Component inputs on back panel are defective on my tv.
Summary: I've had the TV for 4 days. I'm blown away by the quality picture. I really was stunned by the quality of the set until I used the component inputs in the back. Using different sources and different cables I did the usual troubleshooting. The front input jacks work perfectly. The bad news, after having a service tech out today, he said he'd have to replace the entire input board in the back of the TV. He didn't know how long of a process it will be with this TV. I'm nervous about the whole deal, but hoping that Sony chooses to make it right quickly. I'll keep posting on here as this case progresses. I still gave this TV a "very good" rating, because it really deserves one at this point in the game. My only regret is buying from an online dealer that doesn't take returns on big TVs. Oh well, that's the price you pay for a great deal sometimes.Updated
The Sony tech came today, replaced the input board (A1) and the television still has the same problem. I called Sony directly. The service guy said it would be a month in the shop to troubleshoot, order a part and replace it somewhere deep in the tv set. I asked Sony to replace the unit, as I just bought it. They said there was only one person in the company who can authorize a TV replacement and that is their tech support guy. I now have to wait for 72 business hours to see if the Sony tech rep authorizes a replacement. This is ridiculous.Updated
Well, I feel very sorry for anyone who is not really, really persistent naturally. I would have never gotten this issue resolved without being very aggressive with Sony. The merchant I bought from online was pleasant and nice and was working on a solution by calling Sony themselves. However, after calling Sony probably 10 times and hounding them, I asked someone in their customer relations office to have a supervisor call me. The supervisor called last week and agreed to replace my television with a brand new one. The sad thing is how long it took to get to the right person. The great news is that I should be getting a new KDS-55A2000 that works out of the box. I'm considering the extended warranty now.
Apparently one of the problems that occured in this transaction is that Sony put the date of ordering the tv as the purchase date for warranty purposes, so when I called on the day of delivery (a week later) they thought something went wrong with the tv after I had it a week apparently. I did tell them it didn't work from the start, but I guess they didn't hear me. Oh well, it is getting taken care of finally. Way to go Sony, you've saved a customer. I was very close to being done with you forever. Guess I can give that PS3 a second look now.
