"Serious Concerns About This TV"
Pros: Great TV for the Price
Cons: Concerned About Quality Issues
Summary: I've love my Toshiba for 3 months but one day the top 2" inches of the upper left screen darkened significantly and ran all the way to top right where it slowly widened to 3 inches.
Best Buy replaced my lamp but that wasn't the problem. The now want to replace the engine (80% of the TV). The store agreed to replace my TV for the same set but when I went to the TV area in the store and looked at the floor model Toshiba it had the EXACT same problem as my TV.
I'm scared to replace the set now w/ a new Toshiba. The only other set on the market that seems to compare is the Samsung S5086W but I want my Toshiba! It seems to much of a risk to replace now that I've seen the problem in more than 1.

Toshiba is aware of the problem, you can read more about it on their site. http://tacp.toshiba.com, then under Customer Support select "UPDATES/NOTICES". A new window will open where you will see an entry for the 50HM66 and 56HM66. Click that link.
Put your current TV serial number in the appropriate boxes, it should indicate your tv is part of the group. Before you take the replacement TV home from Best Buy ask them to use the same site and enter the Serial Number of that TV. You will then know if the TV is affected or not.
I like the fact that Toshiba is the only Manufacturer willing to stand behind a bulb for 1 year. That is why I am buying this TV. Good Luck on your replacement.
