"Do not buy"
Pros: The picture is great, when the TV is working
Cons: lamp blows often
Summary: I bought this TV in 11/04. I chose the 62HM84 over other televisions out there because of the picture. I was told that the bulb/lamp would last between 6,000 & 8,000 viewing hours. However, the first bulb went in 12/05. Toshiba replaced the bulb, however it took a week or two because the bulbs/lamps were on back order. The Toshiba customer service rep said they were having a problem with the manufacturer of the lamps. All was fine until 9/06, when the lamp went again. Toshiba would not do anything about it. I will never buy another Toshiba product again. I can't believe Toshiba is not standing behind their product. I was willing to make a $200 investment every 4 years (average lamp life according to Toshiba and Best Buys). I would never have bought the TV knowing I would have to pay an additionl $200 per year. I wish I could return it and get my money back. There is either something wrong with the lamps or with the television itself. I believe something with the design of the set is causing the lamps to break. One lamp - it's a fluke, but multiple lamps with multiple sets it's a defective product.

I too have similar problems as kvasvilla with this set. The picture is great, but the lamp life sucks. I bought my set 4/05. My first lamp broke 6/06 and my second broke 10/07. I have my settings on high (6000 lamp hours), but my usage is about 2500 to 3000 hours at the time of failure. Luckily I bought the extended warranty from Crutchfield ($319 for 5 years), but the turn around time is about 10 days. Thankfully my TiVo's are capacity enhanced. Bottom line: Buy the extended warranty and an extra lamp for the down times and then sell the TV after the warranty expires.
