"Cutting Edge and it looks great!!" on by seattlemediaguy
Pros: True 1920 by 1080P. Unbelievable whites as well as Contrast, Stylish, Very quiet, Solidly built
Cons: Expensive, Expensive somewhat scary bulb replacement, not easy to intall due to weight of projector.
Summary: This unit replaced my DWIN Transvision II. The DWIN had a lot of problems. After we installed the Sony, my non tech loving wife's exact words as we watched a couple of minutes of March Madness started out like this "I don't see the difference between the....... Oh wait a minute, you're right this thing looks a lot better." Yes, money well spent.
Don't let the low Lumen count bother you it is much brighter than the 1000 lumen Dwin even with the iris on. The blues literally pop off the screen and I can't see any screen door effect on my 100" screen. This unit is also far quieter than my old projector and I have it in a 16 by 17 foot room so I'd imagine it would be dead silent in a larger room or semi sealed box. I also hooked up my PC with an NVidea 7800 card it throws the complete 1920 by 1080 60hz image and it is an experience to play games on. I looked at a lot of new equipment and this thing, as many other people have noted, has to be seen to be believed. I just wish it came in at half the price. Oh, well the cost of early adoption.
It's also a great looking machine. I am already using the HDMI and DVI ins for the Cable Box and PC. I will need to upgrade my equipment or get an HDMI switcher once we go Blu Ray or Hi-Def DVD. -
"Theater Projector for your house!!!" on by DrunkyDunky
Pros: Picture Quality, 1080p, Quite
Cons: You need a lot more equipment, than just this for your home theater, so remember this isn't all you're buying
Summary: This projector is simply amazing. It has great picture quialty, no matter how big your screen is. I personally have a 16:9 119" screen, and it looks great, doesn't look pixelated at all.
I recommend using a reciver that supports HDMI output, also you don't want to put the reciver too far from the projectors HDMI cables are pretty expensive, the farest the cable go is 26ft from the projector. You might want to get dimmer switch for your thearter, otherwise it gets too dark sometimes and its not a vivl as you want it to be.
I recently played King Kong through this projector, and it felt like I was actually at a theater -
"Looks great, Picture is Great, Price is fine" on by jbsiegelmd
Pros: Picture Quality, Input Types, NO NOISE
Cons: None that I can find yet
Summary: I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I have it mounted outside a glass wall having expected it to be noiser...it would have done fine in the room it's so silent.

"Great picture quality and features. I'm in love" on by shadowlandprod
Pros: Beautiful HD picture. projected at 100" people look like they could walk off the screen.
Cons: Huge! I had no idea how big this projector was when I ordered it. SD looks so/so unless upconverted

"Avoid Sony - Buy from Specialists in projectors." on by mycalrp
Pros: Nothing whatsoever in my experience with Sony projectors
Cons: Unreliable, breaks down, burns bulbs out fast, expensive to repair, poor dealership support.
Summary: Not this projector in particular, but Sony projectors in general. Our business bought a Sony VPL-500Q for $4500 several years ago. It burned out its bulb in 110 hours @ $450. Then something went wrong inside less than 25 hours later, which we had repaired for $1000. Then something else went wrong immediately-- they wanted another $1000 to fix. The dealer where we bought it was no help at all. We now use it for a boat anchor. I would never, ever buy a Sony projector again in my life. These are delicate, expensive machines. I suggest buying your projector from manufacturers that specialize in projectors, not Sony that tries to make everything electronic under the sun.
