"Avoid Sony - Buy from Specialists in projectors." on by mycalrp

Pros: Nothing whatsoever in my experience with Sony projectors

Cons: Unreliable, breaks down, burns bulbs out fast, expensive to repair, poor dealership support.

Summary: Not this projector in particular, but Sony projectors in general. Our business bought a Sony VPL-500Q for $4500 several years ago. It burned out its bulb in 110 hours @ $450. Then something went wrong inside less than 25 hours later, which we had repaired for $1000. Then something else went wrong immediately-- they wanted another $1000 to fix. The dealer where we bought it was no help at all. We now use it for a boat anchor. I would never, ever buy a Sony projector again in my life. These are delicate, expensive machines. I suggest buying your projector from manufacturers that specialize in projectors, not Sony that tries to make everything electronic under the sun.

You're forgeting that your projector may have been defective from the beginning. Even if it wasn't a LOT can happen in several years. The company makes adavncements, raises quality, adds features, etc. Also a $4500 dolar projector is not the same as a very high end $9000 projector. As others have said many times before, what qualifies you to rate it if you don't have it?
