Coby PMP-4320 portable media player (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.3 (3.0 stars)
Coby PMP-4320 portable media player (20GB) Reviewed on 04/03/2007

The Bottom Line: The Coby PMP-4320 made many compromises to meet its attractive price tag. Still, this PVP's built-in ability to record video is unprecedented for a wide-screen player in this price range.

Specs: Digital AV recorder, 5.2 in x 0.9 in x 2.9 in, TFT 4.3 in - Color, MP3, WMA, ASF, AVI, WMV, XviD, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG

DigiArmor DMS-S20 (20GB, black)
  • Editors' rating: 2 stars
      Overall score: 4.7 (2.0 stars)
DigiArmor DMS-S20 (20GB, black) Reviewed on 04/21/2006

The Bottom Line: The DigiArmor DMS-S20 is a rip-off in every respect, from its price to its firmware to its hardware design--we don't recommend it. Get a Creative Zen Vision:M instead.

Specs: Digital AV player, 2.5 in x 0.8 in x 4.1 in, TFT 1.8 in - Color, MP3, WMA, MPEG 1 Audio, MPEG 2 Audio, MPEG 2.5 Audio, AVI, XviD, 5.4 oz

RCA Lyra X3000 (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.7 (3.0 stars)
RCA Lyra X3000 (20GB) Reviewed on 04/10/2006

The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a good way to record and watch video using a compact device, the RCA Lyra X3000 is a solid choice; however, serious music addicts may want to use something else as their primary portable audio device, due to the device's 20GB capacity, its poor audio battery life, and a few navigation foibles.

Specs: Digital AV recorder, TFT 3.6 in - Color, MP3, WAV, WMA, Audible, Protected WMA (DRM), AVI, WMV, XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX 4.0, DivX 5.0, MPEG-4 SP

Yukyung Technologies Viliv P1 (20GB, red) Reviewed on 03/31/2006

The Bottom Line: We wanted to like it, we really did--but the Viliv P1 needs to go back to the drawing board. If you want a portable video player, consider the Creative Zen Vision or the Archos AV500 instead.

Specs: Portable media center, 6.3 in x 0.7 in x 2.9 in, LCD 4.0 in, MP3, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, AC3, AAC, Motion JPEG-1, Motion JPEG-2, Motion JPEG, 0.5 lbs

Archos Gmini 402 Camcorder (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 4 stars
      Overall score: 8.0 (4.0 stars)
  • User rating: 3h stars out of 22 reviews
Archos Gmini 402 Camcorder (20GB) Reviewed on 02/09/2006

The Bottom Line: The Archos Gmini 402 Camcorder looks more attractive than ever, now that it's added a camcorder and a still camera to its long list of music and video features.

Specs: Digital AV recorder, 4.2 in x 2.4 in x 0.7 in, LCD 2.2 in - Color, PCM, WAV, WMA, ADPCM, Protected WMA (DRM), MPEG-4 SP, 5.6 oz

Cowon A2 (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 4 stars
      Overall score: 8.0 (4.0 stars)
  • User rating: 4 stars out of 35 reviews
Cowon A2 (20GB) Reviewed on 02/01/2006

The Bottom Line: The Cowon A2 is a sleek portable video player with a bright, wide-screen color LCD, as well as full multimedia recording and playback capabilities, but it's not the most efficient device. Plus, it's in desperate need of Windows Media DRM 10 (Janus) compatibility.

Specs: Digital AV recorder, 5.2 in x 0.9 in x 3.1 in, TFT 4 in - Color, ASF, MP3, WAV, WMA, AC-3, Ogg Vorbis, AVI, WMV, XviD, DivX 4.0, DivX 5.0, DivX 3.11, MPEG-4 SP, 10.5 oz

Dream'eo Enza Portable Media Center (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.7 (3.0 stars)
  • User rating: 2 stars out of 4 reviews
Dream'eo Enza Portable Media Center (20GB) Reviewed on 12/20/2005

The Bottom Line: As much as we love its slick interface and effortless absorption of content from Media Center PCs, we can't wholeheartedly recommend the underpowered Dream'eo Enza.

Specs: Portable media center, 4.4 in x 0.9 in x 3.1 in, LCD 3.5 in - Color, MP3, WMA, ASF, WMV, 7.4 oz

Archos Gmini 402 (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 4 stars
      Overall score: 8.0 (4.0 stars)
  • User rating: 4 stars out of 34 reviews
Archos Gmini 402 (20GB) Reviewed on 10/05/2005

The Bottom Line: Archos's supercompact Gmini 402 portable video player adds DRM-protected media to its long list of features.

Specs: Digital AV recorder, 4.2 in x 2.4 in x 0.7 in, LCD 2.2 in - Color, PCM, WAV, WMA, ADPCM, Protected WMA (DRM), DivX, XviD, MPEG-4 SP, 5.6 oz

iRiver PMC-120
  • Editors' rating: 3h stars
      Overall score: 7.0 (3.5 stars)
  • User rating: 3 stars out of 8 reviews
iRiver PMC-120 Reviewed on 05/06/2005

The Bottom Line: Although the PMC-120 is a much better device than its Linux-based brother, the PMP-120, it's not the best Portable Media Center device available.

Specs: Portable media center, TFT 3.5 in - Color

Samsung YEPP YH-999 PMC (20GB)
  • Editors' rating: 3 stars
      Overall score: 6.7 (3.0 stars)
  • User rating: 3h stars out of 12 reviews
Samsung YEPP YH-999 PMC (20GB) Reviewed on 04/19/2005

The Bottom Line: If you want the most stylish PMC, look no further than the YH-999; if you need a battery that goes the distance, try elsewhere.

Specs: Portable media center, 3.8 in x 0.8 in x 4.2 in, TFT 3.5 in - Color, ASF, MP3, WAV, WMA, WMV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, 8 oz
