Everyone has at least a few precious things that they just can't live without. For some people, it's a ratty, old stuffed animal from childhood or a potato chip shaped like Abe Lincoln; for the singing governess in The Sound of Music, just about everything she saw seemed to be one of her favorite things. We're sure you're a little more selective than she, but we think that you'll probably be as enamored with the new Sony D-SJ01 Discman as we are. With its great design and excellent sound, this sports CD player is way ahead of the pack.

Striking Good Looks
In its design, the D-SJ01 eschews tradition and turns ordinary portable CD players on their head. While on the go, you can carry the Sony in your left palm: slip your hand through the strap, and wrap it around the edge. All of the necessary controls, such as Play, Stop, and Track Skip fall under your thumb. This is a much better way to carry a CD player than strapping it to your waist; it feels more secure and doesn't flop around.

And if that's not quite enough style for you, the black, yellow, and silver color scheme will definitely help you stand out from the crowd. You can watch your discs through a translucent, yellow window on the lid as they spin away. Half of the joy of this Discman is just how cool you look when you're toting it around town. And admit it: Style goes a long way in dictating the right portable electronics choice.

Rugged Construction
As a member of Sony's line of sports electronics, the D-SJ01 isn't just another pretty piece of plastic. Tipping the scales at just over 13 ounces with batteries, it's weighty without being heavy. If you're the type to go trail running in the rain, you'll appreciate the 40-second, antiskip buffer and water-resistant construction. This player absolutely will not skip, handling sharp vertical and lateral movements with aplomb.

Whether we were simulating vigorous physical exercise or listening sedately, the D-SJ01 always pumped out great-sounding music. Although the player has variable bass settings, we wish Sony had thrown in a few additional features, such as variable equalizer settings or an AM/FM radio, especially since the asking price is a whopping $250. But the D-SJ01 really does offer an innovative, functional design that plays music flawlessly, even under the harshest conditions.

This one rules

Pros: First of all, yes this Sony D-SJ01 had a high price of $199.99 two years ago. You pay two times more than any other Sony Sports CD Walkman because it was Made in Japan.

My worst purchase ever.

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Even though it's not supposed to skip it does and it skips constantly! It doesn't support CDR or CDRW CD’s, which is bad. Features are great, it's indestructible but non of that matters if every song skips like mad!

A real travel companion

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I have spent the last 9 months travelling around Europe with my Sony D-SJ01. It gets great life out of it's AA batteries and I can find more ANYWHERE (a big plus when you are in out of the way locations). It has never skipped for more than a fraction of a second and even that rarely happens. The fact that it's very water resistant and sturdy mean that I haven't broken it yet and haven't had to worry about it. If you are looking for something to play CDs and play them well, with no worries, for a long time but this CD player.

skips when I run

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I bought this because I'm a long distance runner and am used to using a cassette walman. The salesman I bought it from at Best Buy told me it won't skip even when jogging. He lied. It skips after 15-20 minutes of running. Drives me crazy. I think the technology isn't at the level it needs to be for that type of rigorous activity. Stick with the cassette walkmans.

It isn't worth the money

Pros:

Cons:

Review: I got one of these for xmas and haven't had anything but scratched CD's from it, it was a total waste of money! and I would NEVER by this brand again, my $30 wallmart CD players lasted longer, never ate my CD's and had all the same features

No MP3

Pros:

Cons:

Review: While everybody is jumping on MP3 bandwagon. I couldn't understand why Sony is still stick with just CD Music. Are they blind on the trend of music player - MP3!! I wouldn't even consider Sony util they implement MP3 capability in their CD players. No matter how cool it looks.

Too Much $ for a CD Player

Pros:

Cons:

Review: For that price it should be a MP3 CD player! Not impressed with the color either. IMOP

Awsome rugged construction, but . . .

Pros:

Cons:

Review: Although I totally dig this CD player it does lack one feature that all the other top of the line Sony models have, an optical digital out port. It won't matter for most people, but it would be nice to digitally record my CD's to Minidiscs. Oh well.
