CNET product brief
Description: This Crucial Ballistix is a 2 GB, desktop memory module.Compared to other desktop memory modules on the market, it is expensive at around $235.
Pros: Has a 667 MHz clock speed.(While you always want to use the fastest memory supported by your motherboard, be sure not to mix modules of different speeds if you already have memory installed.)
Cons: None noted, given available product data.
Suitability: A desktop memory module, suited for upgrading system RAM.
Value: Overall, this module's price seems a bit steep, with respect to its features. In fact, modules with a similar amount of onboard memory tend to cost 20% less than this one.On the brighter side, this module is made by Crucial, trusted for high-quality, tested RAM.
suggestions: (1) Make sure that your system has a free DIMM 240-pin slot or make sure you have a smaller module to replace this one with.(2) Check with the retailer for warranty information before buying this product.(3) For more information on upgrading your system's RAM, check out CNET's How to page.

DDR2 RAM
DDR (Double Data Rate) 2 memory is the current standard type for home computers and laptops. Desktops use 240-pin DIMMs and laptops use 200-pin SO DIMMs. While the DIMMs are the same size and shape as DIMMs for other types of memory, the number of pins is different, and the "keying notch" is in a different position, preventing accidental installation in an incompatible system. DDR2 memory comes in a number of different speeds, and a system will run at the speed of the slowest DIMM installed. The general specifications of each type are as follows:
| Standard name | Module name | Memory clock | I/O bus clock | Peak transfer rate |
| DDR2-400 | PC2-3200 | 100 | 200 | 3200 MB/s |
| DDR2-533 | PC2-4200/4300 | 133 | 266 | 4266 MB/s |
| DDR2-667 | PC2-5300/5400 | 166 | 333 | 5333 MB/s |
| DDR2-800 | PC2-6400 | 200 | 400 | 6400 MB/s |
| DDR2-1066 | PC2-8500/8600 | 266 | 533 | 8533 MB/s |
Technically, the first column of the table lists the name used to describe individual RAM chips, and the second column is the name used to describe a complete DIMM. However, the two types of terminology are often used in confusing ways, and it best to keep both terms in mind when looking for a particular type. Additionally, some types have two different numbers that the DIMMs will appear under because of the manufacturers rounding the transfer rate numbers differently.
