Summary: I bought this laptop from Office Depot at a fantastic deal price after 2 rebates. It came pre-installed with Vista and a few might disagree but I have always disliked the sluggish nature of Vista. Even with the 3 GB RAM i was NOT satisfied. I formatted Vista and installed XP Pro and now the machine runs like a champ!! I have no complains, just that a few Vista based software dont work, but I hardly care. It loads up fast, never hangs up and always has enough memory to handle it all. All in all I give my thumbs up for this laptop and recommend it to anyone looking for a good deal under $550.

Hard Drive crash after 2 weeks

Pros: Don't know - haven't had it long enough

Cons: Abysmal Quality and customer service. I've had it for just at two weeks, added no new software, and the hard drive crashed completely. HP is offering minimal assistance with the problem.

Summary: Office Depot won't take it back because its after their 14 day return policy and neither Office Depot nor HP will pay for the data recovery. HP is so kind as to send me some disks so I can clean, reformat, and reload the software on what may be a defective hard drive - how nice! I was wary of buying HP because of an issue with a printer I bought a few years ago, but was convinced to by my wife. Regretting the purchase very much.

Great notebook for the price

Pros: 3GB RAM, runs Vista pretty quickly, quick wireless connection

Cons: None so far (other than maybe Vista, but this runs Vista smoothly)

Summary: For the price ($550 after rebates) this is a fantastic computer. Screen is bright, especially when plugged in. Built-in webcam works, wifi connects almost immediately on boot-up, 3GB of RAM smooths operation considerably even before getting rid of the junk HP puts on it.

I purchased it several days so have not used the DVD (I don't expect problems), and I'm not sure how long the battery will run (HP/Compaq only shows percent of battery remaining, not time). Built-in bluetooth is a nice bonus for either portable mouse or headset. Screen had no dead pixels.

Comes with remote control and earbuds.

I'd purchased a Compaq the week before this HP and returned it because of power issues, but the extra gig of RAM is pretty noticeable.

Summary: I've tried out two of these and ended up with the same issues. I installed all my software and then "windows update" freezes and will not allow you to install software. HP can't help because they claim it's a Microsoft problem, and Microsoft can't help because it's a OEM version of Vista. In otherwords, good luck you are on your own. Also, the keyboard broke within the 1st 10 days of use on the first one. I've installed software about 4 times from scratch, I GIVE UP! HP tech support recommended getting one of their newer ones (DV series with the silver keyboard).
