"Great concept, awful implementation"
Pros: Very good idea
Cons: ...IF it worked!
Summary: Love the concept. HATE the setup. Inane web based wizard. If you're lucky and it works, you really ARE lucky. For me it did not. Somehow the remote apparently picked up an IR code it did not understand. The cryptic message did not help. And the help did not help because there was nothing there addressing what to do if the remote did not understand the StartInput command - ??Could not complete the setup until I fixed it so could not get to the Harmony Home page where I just could have deleted everything and started over. Instead, the wizard kept forcing me back to the same 2 screens of possible solutions - none of which identified my problem. Also, had to learn IR codes from the old remote even though Harmony has all my devices in their database. They told me they depend on users for IR codes! And when I balked, their support emailed me the answer was in their FAQs! Didn't give me a clue which article - they're not numbered or indexed anyway. Referring users to FAQs or KBs for solutions is not "support". At least paste the right answer into the reply - you took the 2 seconds to respond anyway! Many options on old remotes were not in the Harmony. So I had to create some commands and learn them from the old remote. You really have to know how your home theater system is "wired", not just have a list of devices and model numbers. That is not adequate to set up activities on the Harmony. Not for the just expert or weak of heart. Box should come with a couple of doses of tranquilizers - one for the frustrating experience of setting the thing up, the other for coping with what passes for "support" from Harmony!

Honestly, I haven't had many issues with setting the remote up or making adjustments as my A/V equipment has changed over the year that I've had this remote. That being said, the entire time that I have had the thing it has been tempermental. From time to time it will basically freeze up and not respond to activity selections. After a few minutes, having pressed activity buttons repeatedly out of stupidity and frustration, it begins to catch up and starts switching from one activity to another. I keep doing the firmware upgrades when they become available, but I have pretty much given up hope on this remote being a consistent performer. Other that the intermittency though, I actually do like the thing. I still could not recommend it to anyone. Who needs a remote with bipolar disorder? Now I'm actually researching for a better model. Kinda scared to spend more mula on an upgrade though. It would really suck and I would take quite the brow beating from the wife if I spend more money on the unit and the more expensive model has the same failings as its cheaper cousin here.

While the original setup may be somewhat cumbersome, it is far from complex. Tweaking of the settings on the Logitech web site resulted in perfect control for my home theater. On the occasions I called for telephone support, the techs were easy to access, prompt in response and were courteous and helpful in answering my questions and resolving problems.

I have to agree with Mike b This remote will not program as they claim or hold the codes properly. It is the second one I have had. First one didn"t work out of box and finally got replaced by seller Harmony didnt want to do anything. It was dead in several areas batterys only lasted about 30 minutes went thru 3 sets befor I returned it. This one I have had a little over a year and have been unable to get it working as manufacturer claims . I am very disgusted and frustrated with it. Also sent email to logitech last week they finally answered and said look at the faq Pretty lousy way to back up product.I also purchased one for my daughter last xmas. She is having same trouble. I don't recomend anyone buy one of these Ray J Meagher
