Pros Software allows you to program any program provided it has an .exe, remote has customizable buttons, battery-life is good
Cons No trackball for mouse movements, arrow keys move cursor slowly (this can be adjusted), expensive batteries
Summary I initially purchased this remote so I could listen to audiobooks in bed and still controll my computer. I initially needed wireless headphones and a IR remote control extender to do this. IR extenders take an infra-red signal and convert it to radio signals, which are again converted to an IR signal in the source room. Since purchasing this remote, I've found another use for it: controlling my computer while I walk on the treadmill (I watch videos off the Internet on my TV).
Provided that you need remote control for your computer, and provided that what you want to do is fairly simple, then this remote is good. Although the price seems to be a bit higher than I remember (however I did not buy this from Amazon). The remote can be programmed fairly easily with any program that uses keyboard shortcuts. The lack of a mouse trackball means that you will have to use arrow keys to control the mouse.
Now, if you want a lecture pointer for Powerpoints, this is not the best product for that. Just look up a clicker with a laser and you'll find plenty of alternatives to this. This is for controlling programs at a distance from your computer. Do you want to control your computer in the same room? Will you have a need to control it from a different room?
You should consider what it is you need this remote for. There may be alternatives that suit your needs better.
I use this remote to switch between programs, tabs on my browsers, and to stop and play videos while on the treadmill. That's about the limit of its usefulness to me. As I mentioned, I bought this remote to control audiobook playlists from my bedroom. This remote is primarily designed for controlling music players, but it is perfectly capable of controll video as well. Forget the idea of controlling an Internet browser in any serious way. You would probably need a remote with a track-ball to do that.
But I am satisfied with this remote. You may find, as I did, that you have other uses for it down the road.
