4.0 stars Pros: Installing typical devices from whatever company is easy, done in a second and it's learning quite easy from other remote controls. It also allows you to arrange the buttons or functions or favourites as you like it.
Cons: You get more buttons for your standard devices then you had before and most of these "extra's" do not function, so you have to "clean" them out. Philips just adds every possible function from a standard device of the brand mentioned.

Summary: At first installing the standard devices from Sony and Samsung was quite easy. For my Homecinema set from Sony I had to install all separate parts, but this was done in just a few seconds. Typing or selecting serial numbers or other notations for the devices was not necessary, just Sony was enough. The so-called hard buttons on the remote control behave just like the hard buttons on the remote controls of the devices when the device is chosen in the menu. I missed some buttons and added them through the learning method of the remote control, easy.
Then the challenge was to add my Conceptronic Mediaplayer 1TB to the control. With the learning method it went just as easy, although the hard-buttons on the Phillips did not take over the hard buttons from the remote control, so you have to make touch-screen buttons. Installing favourites for each device was quite simple and enough icons to get the correct icon to the program set.
To operate several devices as a combination it is possible to create a one-button activation for a function. It takes some time to get it all right, but when it is finished it really is a pleasure to work with. For example: a change from a recorder to a multimedia device may create loud TV sound to be heard while pushing the right buttons in order to get all devices prepared. With the function button you can mute such sound by programming the mute button of the TV before the change takes place.
True, there is no charging cradle, but a charging plug instead. Any difference?
Indeed it does not need a PC and this is handy as you are asked always by the remote control to check if it is working the way you want it, and if not it will take you to check out other options or bring you back one step at a time to make your corrections.
Considering the negative reviews about the Logitech controls on technical issues, and considering the price of just 140 Euro's I paid for it (legal company), contrary to the Philips price mentioned as 199,95 Euro's I am a very happy user and so is my wife, keeping it simple.
