"Versatile yet Flawed"
Pros: Consolidates many devices into one, highly programmable
Cons: Backlight auto-off is annoying, the remote sometimes locks up, can't re-label most onscreen buttons
Summary: If you have a cabinet full of various AV devices, the RM-AV3100 is very useful in alleviating remote control clutter. You will need two hands to operate this remote. It is wide and it is fairly heavy, but not at all uncomfortable to hold.
There have been a few bugs I've run accross. I set the factory code for a Panasonic DVD player and if I push the eject button, the remote freezes up. It locks up the remote so completely only a hard reset of pulling the batteries will unlock it.
From reading the promotional material beforehand, I was fully expecting to be able to relabel all the onscreen buttons on the remote. This is only true of the labels at the bottom of the screen. All buttons can be re-programmed to whatever ifrared source you like, but all the onscreen buttons above the bottom row are hard coded labels from the factory. That was somewhat of a disappointment.
Overall a fairly serviceable remote and fairly tough. It's bounced on the hardwood floor a couple of times with no adverse effects.
