"This remote is a life saver!" on by GrandmasterB
Pros: Customize keys for each A/V component at a bargain price!
Cons: A few more dedicated buttons would be nice, but a minor issue.
Summary: My problem: Olevia 332H LCD TV that comes with no remote codes available to program into any standard universal remote. A wonderful bargain of a TV that requires the seperate use of it's supplied remote only. Frustrating!
The solution: Sony RM-VL600 Universal Learning Remote. It took no time to program the Olevia's functions into the Sony remote, and it works like a champ! Even if all your components will work with a slightly less expensive non-learning universal remote, this is still a must. Being able to customize keys for each component, such as programming the TV volume to be adjusted no matter if you have the remote function on TV, DVD, Cable, etc. makes it worth it's weight in gold.
I will never buy another universal remote that does not allow the "learning" function to customize the keys for each A/V component to my liking. Is this remote as fancy as a $100+++ touch-screen unit, such as one of the highly rated Logitech Harmony units? No. Is it a steal for $25? You bet!
Sony is well known for making top notch electronics, but usually with a price tag to match. Bang-for-the-buck value makes me look past minor shortcomings, such as the absence of a few dedicated buttons that might be useful with a DVR or other piece of equipment. However, for the average home theater cunsumer with a stack of remotes on the coffee table, this remote is a must have!

""FANTASTIC REMOTE!!! Very Universal! User Friendly!" on by lkemenczes
Pros: Easy Instructions, Easy Learning capabilities...Learned various Brands with no problem. Can learn just about any remote!
Cons: No backlight.. that's it....No freak'n backlight!
Summary: I have a old Hughes Directv receiver, a brand new Sony LCD 26" TV, a brand new Sony DVD/VCR Recorder and an old JVC bookshelf sound system....and oh yeah a remote controlled fan. This remote, through the learning technique, I am able to control all of them.
I did have to take the remote into a different room, as the guide suggested, for the learning capability to work. In no time I had the 6 devices I've listed programmed to do what I mostly do with each ones individual remote. I could even set up the DVD/VCR Recorder function of switching back and forth between the two.
I was very much impressed with this remote and would highly recommend it to anyone just looking to condense their remotes down to one. Heck I even programmed my remote control fan into this remote...Glad I didn't spend the 200.00 for their flat screen remote. -
"works to avoid clutter of several remotes" on by tunatony
Pros: set it and forget it
Cons: a bit tedious to program but worth it.
Summary: many will not have to spend 50-100 bucks to achieve what this will do for $25....has worked flawlessly for almost two years...also has become intutive to operate over time (especially if you program it properly). Buttons and toggles can be made to perform a number of ways according to your own preferences. Overall has done the job with 2 dvd players, a vcr, cable box, & television.

"I can't sing the praises of this remote enough!" on by j73albarez
Pros: -Ease of use
-Compatability with other electronics
-PriceCons: None really worth mentioning. OK maybe it could use a backlight, but at this price who really cares?
Summary: This remote is easy to program using the code search function. If that doesn't work completely, which it usually doesn't, you just point the Sony remote at your old remote, punch some buttions, and voila! Your new Sony remote now does exactly what your old remote did. This remote has taken me from 4 remotes to 1 universal remote capable of running all of my components including HDTV, Dish Network receiver, Blu Ray player, and AV receiver. Why would you buy a more expensive product when this one does the same thing for much, much cheaper. Also, the macro functions are incredible! You can program it to turn on your TV, receiver, Blu Ray, etc. with the touch of a button. For example, you know when you want to watch a movie with surround sound and you have to turn on your TV and then your DVD/Blu Ray player and then your AV receiver and then make sure you have your TV and AV receiver set to the right inputs, etc. Well, with this remote you can program all of those steps into 1 button! Buy this remote, it is awesome!

"Mine has been abused A LOT" on by Tc47
Pros: I've owned mine several years. It has been dropped, sat on by overweight people, had liquids spilled on, and in general been given more abuse than a remote should be expected to take yet it keeps on going like the energizer bunny.
Cons: It's been used so much that the letters have been worn off the buttons. I'll correct this by taking a fine point sharpie and printing the function of the button on the metal underneath. It won't look pretty but hey... it'll work.
Summary: Other than what I have mentioned here I see no point in doing a long review because I'D merely be parroting the positive comments left by others on these reviews. To sum it up I'll just say that I am very happy with mine.
