"The Worst Tech Support In 25 Years"
Pros: A good paper weight
Cons: Won't allow settings below 1440 MTU/Drops etc
Summary: After calling multiple times, I was finally patched through to a tech who seemed unaware they even made a 54g. Then I was asked if I had followed the install directions, to which I replied I had, then I was told well then we can't help you. Multiple emails were never answered and I called back several times and asked about their router and AOL. They said they didn't know if it would work and I read to them one little paragraph on their support board. They then suggested I call AOL. I did call AOL and they said Belkin was not supported-but they gave me more support then Belkin. You know you are in bad shape when AOL gives more support for a product they don't support then the manufacturer.
I work for one of the world's largest corporations and when I talked to our tech people they said that Belkin has proven unreliable and they have stopped supporting it. Since I make recommendations on equipment you can bet it won't be Belkin.

Bought the Belkin G Plus MIMO Router for 2 computers . 1 PC desk top and 1 Apple laptop. Day one, 6 hours with 2 CSR's with a very heavy accent tried to assist me with this router. Eventually they state that the router is defective. Day 2, replaced router with same model router, another 4 hours 2 techs and final result? "Sorry your router is defective" They stated they have issues with the series 3 MIMO's. Need I say more? Going to buy an apple router. Nuff said.

Though not using AOL (I use Tiscali.co.uk) Belkin support might as well be the proverbial chocolate teapot for all the use they are! My unit has an annoying habit of resetting when I use it with my main PC and one of Belkin's USB plug in wireless sender things. But seems to have no problem with my laptop. I checked the settings, (Belkin "Support" staff all think I am thick I am sure!!) all seem ok (but I have to reset router about 70% of time when using PC - Again Belkin cannot or will not answer my query! IMHO They should employ ENGLISH speaking staff who know what they are doing, not Indians who havent got a clue - Sorry for any Indians reading this, it's nothing personal! Not sure if CNET editor had a tweaked product, i.e. one that actually works but at a push, I'd rate it 8% certainly not 80! Right, rant over, feel a bit better now! Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can get over this problem PLEASE feel free to reply! Prizes given for the most effective!

Mine works fine with AOL but you have to get the settings from AOL keyword "Router"/wireless network/network setup/essential router settings. AOL use ppoa instead of ppoe as most others use.

I too am underwhelmed by Belkin's Technical Support. It sounds like they have followed the same distressing industry trend so many other have followed -- outsource to half-trained or untrained Indians.
I have tried calling Belkin's Technical Support exactly once, for the same router. But I had better luck, largely because my problem was simpler, and I had already educated myself on the environment in which it was to run. The most useful thing I got out of the tech-support rep was confirming that the router really will work with a DSL modem in "bridge mode", and that it really does do its own DHCP (well-hidden in the setup menu).
Finally, I do not expect to get useful help from them concerning why my 54g has to be reset so often, twice a day this weekend. Rather, I expect better luck with a newer router, even if it too is from Belkin. -
I could not get my router to connect through AOL, but could connect with absolutely no problems through my friends Tesco account, both on my own telephone line, and his. After going through every setting trying in vain to connect through AOL, I rang Belkin support telling them I was thinking of purchasing their 54g wireless router and asked does it support AOL accounts. "Yes, of course" was the reply. After another days worth of tinkering, I rang Belkin again and spent half an hour trying to explain what the problem was to someone still learning english. Just as he got the jist of the problem, "Thank you for calling Belkin, Sir" and hung up when I was in the middle of a sentence! So I rang AOL and after five minutes were able to tell me that they did not support this Belkin product. The Router obviously works fine but just not with AOL. Anyway, if you have any problems with it, "Have a nice day, sir."
