"Being Returned"on by howjef
Pros It was a relatively easy set up. Connected a desktop (wired) a desktop, a laptop, and a printer wirelessly. Up and running rapidly after resolving issue in "cons".
Standing in vertical position makes placement easier. No sticking out of antennas is a def
Cons 1. The download from the website did not allow for selection of win 7 64, so a call to Asus was required. The upside of that was , after a very long wait time)it was answered by an American speaking very pleasant person.
2. The router was very hot. Hot
Summary Although this particular unit was defective, the support was excellent and I was very pleased with the set up and functionality.
"Defective unit"on by CurbRash
Pros great marketing hype
Cons Unit rebooted and locked up in a mini web server mode. Would not distribute DHCP DNS settings correctly. Returning unit as "defective".
Summary They should stick to making motherboards.
Pros The router found my modem, cloned my laptops MAC and was connected to the Internet faster than I could open the browser. That is fast! After connecting two USB drives, a 1Tb Iomega and and a 250Gb LaCie, transfering 1.5Gb's to my laptop took seconds.
Cons None Yet...
Summary I think CNET has steered me onto a great product. Thanks CNET.
Pros high speed through walls - good distance - high speed local USB ports and high speed from wireless to direct connect desktop for files tranfers or video streaming -
Cons the setup seems to be written for tech guys - they should let the no tech guys write the set up so it would be more intuitive but still useable with a little work
Summary like I said works great - a good buy
Pros Device is physically very nice. Web Interface is very usable (you'll find the initial admin id/pw later in the hard copy book than you need it ... but it's there).
Cons I work remotely and absolutely must have VPN support. The router still doesn't offer it despite being on the market for months. This is completely mind blowing. Worse yet is the tragically poor dealings i've had with ASUS support.
Summary Visually Appealing, but that's not much help if you can't actually connect to things.
