Manufacturer description

The Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G Router with Built-In USB Print Server shares your broadband Internet access with your connected computers and enables them to print wirelessly to your USB printer. With a Belkin Router as the central connection point of your network, your computers can share fi les and resources as well as print and get online, all at the same time. By achieving networking speeds that are faster than standard 802.11g, Belkin High-Speed Mode (HSM) networking products provide increased real-world networking speeds. This means you will see overall speed improvements in mixed-mode networking environments where other 802.11g devices may be present. HSM offers even faster speeds in pure HSM environments. HSM technology is interoperable with all other wireless devices.

Poor range renders this product essentially useless

Pros: It's useless, so how can there be any "pros?"

Cons: Poor range renders this product essentially useless

Review: I decided to go with Belkin because their wireless routers & receivers had a reputation for having the longest range of any of the various manufacturers. The manual for this product states the typical operating range is between 100-200 feet. Perhaps this is true if your house's architecture happens to be that of a giant featureless box with no partitioning walls inside. My laptop, with the Belkin Wireless G Notebook Card properly installed, cannot pick up an adequate signal when no more than 50 feet away. When I move it close enough to pick up a signal, my connection speed is slower than a dial-up modem. I just hope Staples will let me take it back. If I had it to do over, I obviously wouldn't buy it again. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!

Highly Recommended

Pros: Performs as advertised, simple setup

Cons: May not be compatible with your printer

Review: I wanted to consolidate the network devices in my home office (firewall, switch, and print server) into one and add wireless functionality. After doing some extensive research (which included a check of the Belkin printer compatibility list at http://web.belkin.com/support/printserver/list.asp) I decided on the Belkin F5D7231-4P.

The device installed easily and has performed perfectely for about 3 months now. I have no complaints. My one caution to you is that the printer compatibility list appears to be a bit dated. My printer is on the list. Yours may not be.

Great Router @ Print server for the money

Pros: Fast, easy install on XP platform, w/ basic Lexmark printer.

Cons: Just installed my network today, up and running with no problems

Review: 1st time to home networking, did a lot of reading about various products and other opinion's for both routers, cable modems and network cards. VERY HAPPY to have gone with Belkin.
Install of everything was easy for this 55year+ guy, and to have the printer in the network will come very handy indeed.
I paid $90 for the router after rebate, and $70 each for the network cards. The Cable Modem ( Motorola SB5100 )I was able to get for $60 after rebate. Everything works together great. Speed is faster than what I have at work, which is dedicated, so I am very pleased. Distance gets me to the deck with my laptop, which is what I was looking for. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, Take a look at the Belkin products. I believe that you will see the value as I did. Lifetime Warranty you don't see everyday also. Say goodby to Dialup, CABLE the way to go!!!

No multi-function printer support

Pros: For wireless connectivity, the router functions flawlessly. The wizards to set up are idiot proof.

Cons: USB Print server doesn't support multifunction printers such as the Epson Stylus CX5200 or CX5400. It took me two hours, and a product return before finding this out. Tech support had NO clue what was going on. Ridiculous!

Doen't perform as it claims

Pros:

Cons: Print server function inadequate. Belkin claims the print server feature will work with "most USB printers" Yet they do not have a current list of these printers. Belkin is clearly using their customers as guinea pigs to figure out which printers are c

Excellent product, not good for multifunction printers

Pros: The installation uses a wizard for the router configuration and then the print server, both very easy to use.

Cons: Does not work with multifunction printers. :( Tech support was kindda clueless.
