  • "Great router until I discovered"

Pros: Good technical support, wireless card works great in hotel, software to install is easy

Cons: With firewall disabled, dynamic ftp client cannot connect to my ftp server; reset button is hard to find AND difficult to reset.

Summary: I read all the reviews and bought this about router and card about 2 weeks ago. Router is set up for a desktop and laptop. Card works great in a hotel, tech support in setting up router and card (for laptop) is fast and knowledgeable UNTIL I had to upload some files using my FTP client to my web server. Even with the router's firewall turned off, I can connect but cannot upload files. Some small files pass, but larger files like an HTML page cannot. Called technical support and was told that I needed to know what port and range I was using in my system to the web server. Searched Belkin's knowledge base and discovered that when using an FTP client, the only work around is to disconnect, turn off router and connect directly through the modem.

I echo the same problems with loading files to ftp servers. The only way around the problem is to bypass the router.

This review put a terrible chill in my bones since I just got a new Belkin Pre-N router - and use FTP on a weekly basis.<br><br>I just uploaded a half meg zip file to a webserver with no problems.<br><br>Phew.

I too had serious FTP issues with my new Belkin Pre-N router; the first time I tried to upload to my web server I was able log in and connect but couldn't upload anything. Here too, even with the router's firewall turned off, files would not upload. After some time with Belkin technical support and a few too many router settings changes I still could not upload the web server. I never had to change anything on my old DI-624 D-Link router. After I finished with support, I re-applyed one the recommended MTU settings changes (to 1400) using a "Dr. TCP" utility from this "Bulldog" website and then things finally started to work. I am still not certain if this final tweak is what did the trick and intent to go back to previous settings and start over to determine with certainty what exactly the actual fix was.<br><br>There seems to be a lag now when I first open up web pages which I have yet to look into but despite these negatives I am still quite impressed with the Belkin Pre-N's signal strength and range. Belkin better get on the ball though if I am going to stay with their products.

I've been trying to set up a wireless netowrk in my house but haven't been successful with any routers until now. My problem was that my office is upstairs on one side of the house and my main living area was the exact opposite and could never even pick up the hint of a signal. I was dreading the thought of running wires to install additional access points or using a repeater (which cuts into the bandwidth). <br><br>With the Blekin Pre-n, I'm getting an excellent signal strength everywhere in the house (I'm going to try outside next). This is without the use of Belkin's card which I will be returning (11mbps is already faster than my ISP).<br><br>This router lives up to the hype and more!
