"Great product." on by dotdoc
Pros: Works seamlessly with Airport Express
Cons: There are cheaper routers (but this is sooo reliable & easy to set up)
Summary: 802.11g router worked well out of the box. I purchased this as a 802.11g router that was reported to work with Airport Express (used to stream digital music through a stereo). Once the Buffalo router was set up on a PC, I plugged the Airport Express into the stereo, then into a wall socket & it worked perfectly (no further configuration was required).
Sophisticated configuration controls are available through the web-based menu (although not always intuitive). Quick set up using standard settings is easy. Good security with WEP, WPA, and MAC address settings. WDS is available, so it's possible to use a Buffalo range extender (or conceivably other manufacturer's products) to increase coverage within a plaster/lathe house (I have coverage from basement to 2nd floor using a router + range extender). Again, the Buffalo range extender (WLA2-54G) worked perfectly out of the box: just plug it in to any available wall socket. I'm very pleased with the Buffalo products. No (zero, nada) connection failures in 5 months of use.
Haven't had to use support, so can't comment on that aspect of things. -
"First Router For Networking Newbie" on by LPeter
Pros: Features, Fast Speeds, AOSS
Cons: Setup, User documentation, AOSS did not work until I downloaded the latest drivers and Client Manager Software.
Summary: I am relatively new to Wi-Fi networking and this is my first router. CNET really is not kidding about the poor quality of the setup instructions and the user documentation. If you are a newbie and want to learn a lot about networking in a hurry, go ahead and buy this router and prepare to learn on the fly! I love the speed, security, and advanced features. No dropped connections and despite CNET's speed tests, it's fast enough to suit my pruposes. My only complaint is that with AOSS enabled, it does not allow for manual MAC address filtering. You have to turn off AOSS and go completely manual to use the MAC table.
Updated
After almost 1 year of use my rating goes up to a 9.5! (The 0.5 off was for the lack of good setup documentation.) No dropped connections and no complaints. This router is as solid as a tank. Buy this one istead of a Lynksys or Netgear.
Updated on Aug 5, 20105 years later...and the router is still going strong. Never a dropped signal, no issues, and no complaints. LIke another reviewer said this router is solid as a tank. Since I mainly do e-mail and internet surfing, I have not noticed any issues with speed and I do use the 125-afterburner mode. -
"More Reliable than Other Major Brands CNET rating way too low!" on by bobmitmen
Pros: Easy Setup, No signal drops or reboots like others
Cons: None That I can think of
Summary: I first tried Netgear WRT624...lots of signal drops and rebooting problem...Not with just one...but three of them. Linksys WTG54GS was fine for the first few days...then the wireless signal would just randomly disconnect for no apparent reason. No 2.4 GHZ interference from anywhere. Then...I stated reading user reviews rather than Magazine reviews. This router is like a tank...always there protecting you and doing it's job. No wireless drops. No rebooting. Tech support for Buffalo Technologies is very knowledgable and friendly. One toll free call and maybe a 5 minute wait and you get a tech support person from Texas. Buffalo Technologies is not as "Popular" in the states, as yet...but worldwide they are one of the bigger companies. Knowing the product works as advertised and the support behind it is there is all one can need. Is this router the fastest...NO...but what is the fastest worth when it is also one of the two must unreliable. Afterburner speed could be better (still top 5). Mixed mode speed is very healthy...and a top rated router. I sometimes think that the reviewers at CNET like to drive a Porsche when a Infinity will do. This router is worth the money you pay for it. Two year warrantee and great tech support. Reliability is piece of mind.

"Worked When the Major Brands Did Not" on
Pros: Very easy and straightforward to set up. My third router after trying Linksys, then Netgear WGT624 (Horrible!), then the Buffalo. I like that the SSID is the MAC address; more secure that way IMO. Speed is good, and hasn't dropped yet once (Linksys droppe
Cons: Limited mounting options blah blah blah; I guess if I really needed to wallmount the unit, or if my cable modem weren't already vertical, I'd be pissed. But, it fits my needs so... your mileage may vary. I've heard complaints about some of the LED's being

"I think it is much better than Linksys!" on
Pros: Easy to set up and I really like The AOSS feature
Cons: Customer support took a little longer than I wanted
