Pros Fast speeds, great power and range
Cons sometimes drops when cordless phone in use
Summary I've never set up a wireless router or created a wifi hot spot, however I had to take a crash course on it all when my son and I both got Xbox 360's for Christmas. I bought the wireless adapters for the 360's and then set about the task of getting a wireless router for the computer. I did a lot of research on wireless routers and the DGL-4300 turned out to be the best choice (from endless reviews I'd read!). It prioritizes packets of info that will help prevent lag during games. In fact, I've never had an issue of "lag" in any online game I've played. I've been all over Xbox Live and never lost my connection or had my character suffer from the dreaded lag! The only issue I've ever had was that sometimes my cordless phone will knock us off if it is in use. This is very infrequent, but it has happened a few times. I've got to believe that it has something to do with the frequency at which my realllllly old cordless phone operates.
As I mentioned, I had ZERO experience with any of this wireless stuff before. For a total noob, I had no problems whatsoever. It took me maybe a total of five minutes to get it up and running. I didn't have to buy any kind of proprietary adapter to work with the D-link either, My Xbox Wireless Network Adapter worked like a charm. I get a strong signal in two different Xbox unit and one is located at the farthest end of my house from the computer.
Pros Actually stays connected! Has ability to coordinate bandwidth traffic for your gaming needs. easy to setup. Good range, looks nice with blue LED
Cons BLUE LED wont let me sleep blinking so bright, lol only CON i see is price, but after the money i spent on routers it would have been better to just have bought this one at the begining.
Summary I have been through 2 linksys wireless routers 1 wireless access point. 1 U.S. Robotics, 2 Belkin, and this list does not include WIRED routers. All have flopped... Random disconnects issue with range when im in the same room as the dam thing. WRT54GL SUCKS and anythign in that series.. LINKSYS has disappointed me in wireless area. I have had this Dlink for some time now and have never found a router easier to deal with. setting up ports for gaming was easy, and quick. Was going to buy bigger antenna but dont think i need it get good range all over the house. even at the neighbors. allows me to regulate bandwidth for when im on XBOX live and play some pc games. many preconfigured settings for lots of popular games already listed. this router would keep you happy and gaming. or even if you just want good quality connection this router will get the job done.
Pros GigE Router, Intuitive management interface
Cons Price, the worst customer service in the world
Summary I bought one of these about a month ago because of a $25 rebate and I still don' have it up and running!
The wired network was rock-solid at all times, but the SSID was only being broadcast intermittently. After dealing with D-Link support for almost 7 days and being hung up on repeatedly, treating with no respect what-so-ever, repeating the same steps about 50 times and then being told that I cannot RMA through D-Link unless I've had the product for more than 45 days, I got in touch with NewEgg.com (where I had purchased from) and was given an RMA within minutes.
I'l mention at this point that I've been setting up networks for ten years now and I've been working professionally with computers for about fifteen.
The replacement router is arriving today and hopefully this one will work... if not, I won't be calling D-Link for help.
Basically, buy this product for the features and hope that you nevver need any support.Updated
If only D-Link's tech support were not so incredibly aweful!
I received my replacement from NewEgg today and setup was a breeze (after upgrading the firmware!)
I'd increase my rating to an eight now if I could... but man, do I hate their tech support.
Pros Packet priority
Cons Reboots daily
Summary I am typically a D-Link fan and this is a good router. But it is not without its problems. I really like the packet prioritization and the range on the wireless. What I don't like is that it reboots randomly about once a day for no apparent reason. It's back within a few seconds, but it's really annoying if it hapens in the middle of a data transfer.
I had some trouble getting this router to work with VoIP, but I was never able to determine if it was the routers fault.
Still probably the best router I have ever had on XBOX Live!
Pros High performance
Cons What happened to awesome firewall control's of the older d-link routers?
Summary A long adventure of d-link, linksys, router, router/modem combos finally ended in this router! I'm finally a happy customer with good VoIP quality. I was previously having horrible time with VoIP when there was concurrent VPN connection(s). The QoS on this little gadget the worked best for me.
