"Buy The Bilken" on by pkolter

    Pros: Good Range

    Cons: Speed is a lie

Summary: I bought this router initial for price. I was looking for the speed and coverage and thought I could save a buck. Wrong move!

Initially the router didn’t work with my DSL modem. A call to tech support got it up and going but they had arranged the modem as an access point without using the firewall or DHCP. I figured I could live with this and play with it later but then I found a bigger issue.

I thought I was getting a MIMO router with 108Mb speed. That's what the box said. That’s what the website says. It turns out, however, that the hardware doesn't support 108Mb speed. It appears that they were probable hoping to release this hardware fix it later with a software patch. As of today, however, there is a new hardware version on the market and D-link tech support tells me it never will support the 108Mb speed for version A (emails below).

I took the DI624 and DWL650M back and I bought the Bilken MIMO router and card. It worked great, right out of the box. I can literally go 2000 feet to the park and still stay connected!

    XXXXXXXXXXX,

As this DWL-G650M (MIMO) card does support only 54 Mbps of connection and not 108Mbps.

However any changes in the card will be notified through the given link:

Ok, I'm confused. The last email said, "Unfortunately the DI-624 rev. A and the DWL-G650 rev. A will never support Super G Mode". this website again indicates that it does support this standard. Why do you advertise that the standard is part of the equipment when it apparently is not? Are you planning on adding this feature in the future?

============Begin of Original Message=========== Why is this advertised as supporting up to 108Mb connections? I seems that this is false advertising.

    XXXXXXXXX,

Unfortunately the DI-624 rev. A and the DWL-G650 rev. A will never support Super G Mode. These hardware revisions were developed on an earlier, unratified draft of the 802.11G specification. D-Link will not exchange for newer hardware revisions.

============Begin of Original Message============ I just got a new DI624 router and DWL-G650M wireless card. I noticed that the speed reported was only 54Mb. My understanding from the product discription was that I would be able to get 108mb with this arrangment but I see from the firmware avaiable that the version on the router HW version A1. Is there anyway to get 108Mb or do I need to take it back?

    "Excellent Device" on by wewhitleyrx

Pros: works great, never had a problem. Could not have asked for a better device.

Cons: power adapter went bad 6 years after purchasing the device

Summary: I purchased this device in 2005 when I finally was able to have high speed internet from my local phone company. This device worked great and I have been a D-Link customer ever since. On August 20, 2011 the power adapter for the device quit working and when was very hot when I reached down to unplug it from my surge protector. I went to my local electronic supply store and inquired into a new adapter which was going to be $25.00. I went back to my other local electronic store where I purchase all my electronics and purchsed a new D-Link router to replace this one instead of spending the $25.00 just for the power adapter. I plugged it in at the store when I inquired about the power adapter and the device still works. So my only complaint is that the power adapter went bad after 6 years. I think that's a pretty good record for the device. I am sure I'd still be using it if the after market power adapter was cheaper. I now own a D-Link DIR-825 and it's just as amazing as this one.

"Low bandwidth Trendnet popup spam made it a bad deal." on by zephod42

Pros: Set up fairly easy including WPA encryption. Range is adequate for my across multiple rooms all though speed is low.

Cons: Bandwidth never exceeded 20 meg. Trendnet Micro dash board popups are like spam. They can't be eliminated.
NEITHER VENDOR WILL TELL ME HOW TO STOP THE POPUPS. Popup blocker results in a dialog box the interferes with other applications.

Summary: Soured on D-Link and Trendnet products. Fortunately there are many other vendors out there with better products.
