"Good router if you're not too stupid to get it to work"
4.5 starson by mindpowerPros: Fast network, lots of features, good http interface, frequently updated firmware
Cons: None so far
Summary: I'm amazed at some of the dumb reviews on here. "Doesn't work with Apple"? C'mon, ethernet and 802.11 standards are no different for Macs than they are for PC's. "Only 2500kbps speed, worse than a 14,400 modem". Are you totally clueless? The K in kbps makes that speed 2500,000bps, nearly 200x faster than a 14.4 modem. "USB port didn't work with my hard drive". Duh! The USB port is for configuring the router from a USB flash drive. It's not a file sharing device! "Some video downloads take forever to buffer". Well then try setting up QoS, or pick better streaming hosts.
This router is very configurable. Clearly it's too advanced for the average home user as it seems many people are confused by the multitude of options.

The Sharepoint software is specifically for sharing devices through the USB port, thus the name "Sharepoint". Get it? Did you read the instructions? Talk about Duh! What a genius.

I'm very good with routers and all other pieces of hardware. Yes, while this might be a great router; it's failure rate is way too ******* high. My first router (ver A4, 1.31NA) dropped wireless connections every 2 minutes (wasnt a range issue either, the laptop was 3 feet infront of the router). It would lock up, pages would hang... I thought it might be a QoS issue, but disabling the engine wouldnt help. Setting up rules wouldn't help either.
I never did have any problems getting any computer connected to the router though. The USB port is supposed to be for more than just programming the damn thing you know. I wont even try putting a printer on it because of the horror stories i've heard from other people who HAVE tried. -
Thank you for your review, it cleared up some confussion on my part as to why some people gave this router so low a rating. I agree that these devices can be difficult to configure, but usually the manuals explain it step-by-step. The problem may be that people don't read them!

With the latest firmware update and the shareport program (both available on the support website) one can share an external hard drive on this router. Of course you actually have to read the instructions and install it properly in order for it to work.
I've used this with DSL and cable; macs, PCs and smartphones. The only thing that didn't work was a linux tablet but I think the kid didn't know what he was doing and just install linux to look cool.
Even if one doesn't understand all the options, it still works out of the box. If i remember right there's a CD that can walk you through the basic configuration through a GUI interface, OR just use Network Magic during the trial to get it all right and then uninstall NM.
Most of the problems reported sound like computer configuration issues, not reading the instructions issues or just got a bum unit and should have just returned it. I mean is smoke is coming out of anything, what do you do? Idiots.
